So I just picked up the 800 and I'm almost completely satisfied.....except for one thing... The Trim Levels are way too sensitive. I have two Technics 1210's hooked up on channel's 2 & 4, with RCA's running out of Master 2 into a JVC home reciever. MY PROBLEM IS THIS: I can't get my Trim above 2 1/2 dots from negative infinity before maxing out the channels. I have tried adjusting the reciever volume, the ATT, and the master level. As you can imagine, it's a bitch to mix with such a small amount of play with the Trim....ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

There's an attenuator on the back of the mixer... you can change the mixer from 0db down a few notches, hopefully to where you need it...

Be sure you have phono connected to phono, line to line. I typically have my trim pots around 9 o'clock for line devices, haven't tested a TT.

I agree, sounds like the carts may be the issue.

MM carts are high output by design. I think that's what is behind their need in Digital mixers.

Quote: So I just looked on Shure's site regarding the "MM" technology and no info =( What I did get though is that they are high output (9.5 volts) with emphasis on "Big Bass"....maybe that's the problem? I dunno, guess I need to test with some different needles (which kinda sucks). Really wish someone would have told me this before I put the cash for this mixer. |

Er, try 9.5 MILLIvolts... volts are much larger
![]() 9.5mv is not THAT much higher than a normal cart, maybe twice as much at the most, but still it shouldn't cause you to have THAT much sensitivity in your channels. What you're talking about is way extreme which is why Pulse suggested things were hooked up wrong. I'd be inclined to agree but you seem to know what you're doing. Check the mixer. -r- |

Quote: Okay...yeah so I meant Milli Volts.. oops To continue, I actually found out that these are Moving Magnet cartridges, which leads me to my next point...is this a defective mixer and is anyone else having this same problem? |

If it's set-up properly with MM carts, then you could have an issue. Things go wrong sometimes, can you return it for a new mixer?

Quote: Don't know....I did get a response back from Musicians Friend tech support (where I purchased my mixer for an EXCELLENT price). Their tech said that on the 800 he usually has master out around half and can get his trim at about 6 maxing out at 8. Again, I can't get above 2 1/2 before maxing out regardless of master out. I did get a recommendation to try channels 3 and 4 instead of 2 and 4. Guess I can try that, but for the price tag on this mixer, it should do just about averything including an occasional..well you know what, while I'm mixing. Anywho...think it's goin' back =( |

Yep another analogue TT issue I found after much trial and experimenting the 800 is really fussy with carts so far I found the Stanton 680hp to work best.... I think all these problems will become more apparent as more people with TT's start using these...... It can't be that even a behringer VMX 300 sounds better than my 800 and is a hell of a lot easier to mix with using analogue TT's... I mean even the headphone cue sounds crisp with an analogue mixer in comparison ..... I think alot of it is needle pressure and output as I feel the digital side of the process picks up alot of noise from needles and duplicates this in the process meaning the right cart outputting the right freqs will be required or you will as I have get a lot of static or unclean sound till you find the right cart.... For example as I said in another post if I use the concorde night club E's the sound through the headphone cue is dirty and overshadows the beats... With concorde elecrto's it's too boomy and seems to feed back even affecting the harmonic effect... However with the stanton 680's on board it is alot cleaner..... This only happens with the 800 I have tried the same set up on three other mixers in the last week and on all three the concordes kicked ass on the stanton beatiful untouched sound in real time compared with echoey annoying cheap sound from the 800 when used.... As I said I have never seen a mixer this picky with carts it must have something to do with how it processes signal coming in maybe certain carts are different on how they output sound and the digital conversion or some kind of internal impedance issue affects how the sound is processed.....

After reading this post again properly this time I too have my inputs set at about 2.5 notches above zero to run at just past 0db... This also varies with output for example using electro's with 7.5 millivolt out they are at about 2.5 from zero... using night club E's 6 millivolt I can stretch them to about 3,5 or a bit more depending on type track being played.... still they are way to sensative as you really need to carefully just move them half a milimetre at a time or you hit red real quick.. using these in a club would be hard especially after a few ale's as the slightest and I do mean slightest movement could mean making a fool of yourself with a big jump in sound..... Not right very very hard to keep spot on unless you are one of these Dj's who floggs them into a few oranges and reds at all times.... I still keep everything on zero db so yes it does make using this mixer hard work.....
