Ok now most of the controls on the mixer are midi mappable. When mapped they serve dual functions. But lets say u want to assign the Booth Monitor Volume level to lets say Ableton Live's Tempo control. Also, u do have a booth monitor speaker u are listening to as well. So if u got it mapped, want to change the Tempo of Ableton, that booth speaker is going to go up/down in volume at the same time correct? Or is there a way to overide that?
Just a bit confused on how to map the midi parameters in Ableton w/out messin up the mixer setup itself. |

they all serve dual purposes... meaning they do whatever the hell they are meant to and then also output MIDI...
So yes, if you're running an audio source and have, for example, master level set to trigger event... you're going to blow some ears out ^_^ |

right, this is the art of assignment using the DJM-800. You've seen mine recommended assignments thread and I think (for me anyway) that is the most logical way of setting up the mixer to manage audio mixing with MIDI assignments and making it all work.

Yep - I was doing a gig last night where I found another reason to be cheezed that the phono inputs aren't line-switchable.

what was the problem? Did you want more line inputs rather than having the phono inputs?

Yeah, I was using my CMX along with Ableton and DJS - having the CMX and 3 pair of outputs from my M-Audio 410.
I wanted to put my CMX in CH1 and CH2, outputs 1/2 and 3/4 (virtual decks 1 & 2 from DJS) from the 410 into CH1 and CH2, output 5/6 (master out from Ableton) into CH4. For audio, CH1 & 2 are the CMX. For DJS, CH1 & 2 are DJS decks. For Ableton, CH1-3 are MIDI controlled, CH4 is audio. Problem being - I was using analog for all connections, meaning I couldn't use the tiny line/digital switch on the back, and because the phono isn't line-switchable, I'm unable to connect line devices there and switch them over. Long story short: I would have loved the phono inputs on the DJM800 to be switchable to line inputs. When I get some time this week I'll see about pulling the info I've gathered on DJing w/ Ableton. Quote: Man, I feel you on this. I would have loved to have been able to use more line inputs as well and have them switchable in case a phono or two would be needed. If Pioneer does a revision/upgrade to this mixer, I would request that plus maybe a MIDI disengage button that might suspend a MIDI message being sent when touching or moving a knob/fader that was assigned to MIDI but you wanted to only use it for audio purposes w/o affecting ableton (or traktor, etc). Probably some other things too, but I'm compiling a list elsewhere to make some recommendations. ![]() rob. |
