Just got a brandy new DJM-800. I don't have XLR's for the Master out, so I hooked up my 1/4" jacks to the BOOTH output, which run into my KRK RockIt 8 monitors. As soon as I put the power on the mixer and turned up the volume a bit, there is just constant hiss/noise/feedback, whatever u want to call it. What could be the issue? Is it the BOOTH output?

I have nothing but the mixer on and the speakers hookedup straight out of the box, didn't modify anything at all. Anyway withsame setup with my DJM-500 its perfectly clear signal.

Any clue?

Have you tried different cables? (Not swapping them, but completely different cables.)

I've thought about bringing the same issue up here, but since you did, I'll chime in with you. I've had the exact same issue with DJM 800 since I purchased it to replace my other mixer (to remain nameless). However, I don't believe you have done anything wrong. I think the box is just "more noisy" (I wouldn't say hum or feedback...it's hiss) in comparison to other mixers on the market.

I actually had this discussion with a friend of mine who is in production at a big club in Boston (to remain nameless). He recently had to switch out a "Brand X" mixer for the DJM 800 for a big name DJ that we are all familiar with here. After sound checking the big DJ, he called me and asked if my DJM 800 was "hissy" because the one he had just setup was "hiss-ier" in comparison to the "Brand X" mixer which was their house mixer.

Now, having said all this, let me say that I'm still more than happy that I got rid of my previous mixer for the 800. In more than one way, I believe that the DJM 800 is one the best mixers on the market and definately the best in it's price range. The higher noise floor of the DJM has a very very minimal effect (if any) on sound quality (especially at higher levels), and after weighing funtionality and flexibilty, the DJM 800 wins out by far. Just my two cents.

Just a quick comment. I have a DJM600 and have noticed that the booth output is very hissy with going from RCA to 1/4" (i know the 800 has a 1/4" for booth). I would try going from the main RCA to the 1/4" to see if it is just the booth circurty or if its both on the main out and the booth.

The 600 I use sounds fine over the main, but like I said the booth is hissy, something I can live with.

Thanks for the replies guys. Today I'm going to pickup some XLR cables so I can use the MASTER out to my Monitors and see if that clears up things. I can deal with the BOOTH being hissy... Maybe it could be because I have the mixer ATTN/Gain at 0db? But I'll definately let you know my findings. I know this mixer is going to rock! Can't wait to get it workign with Ableton Live.

Try with a cheap 2 pole to 3 pole A.C. adapter connected to the KRK monitors, I usually have the same problem with my KRK monitors connected to different sources.

One example is when I connect my laptop to the mixer, the I hear the hiss, but this adapter fixes the problem. Without connecting the adapter no problems.

I also have the same problem when I connect the KRK monitors to the T.V. to see a movie.

Regards.

I made a mistake, "Without connecting the adapter no problems" should be "Without connecting the laptop no problems"

Well the XLR's really helped alot! When I had my 500 hooked up to the KRK's never had an issue, so I don't think thats the problem. But with the new XLR's there is still a little hiss, but its about 3x lower in volume than before.

I got my laptop hooked up to it too... the only time I find that I get external noise/feedback that my KRK's pickup is when I connect my 21" lcd monitor, its wierd, or when my Razr cell phone rings, they pick that up too...
