Try compressed air, if that doesn't work, try contact cleaner like Cailube.

the fact that the speakers are powered wouldnt have anything to do with that. like pulse said, just clean the fader. if that doesnt work, maybe ur still under warranty for a new one. faders are cheap anyways.
