DJM-S9 Midi Messages LED

Hello! There was few Topic about that, but not exactly what I was looking for. So I Have DJM-S9 and I use that also with Traktor Pro. (I Know it is SERATO mixer!!!)

I have mapped S9 almost full with traktor, but I can't understand the LEDs. I can map pads with different color if I example want use, Roll or Sampler or HotCues, but example button where reading Roll, the LED wont work with traktor at all. Is anybody solved this, Pioneer pdf says all for midi signals, but somehow traktor can't light all the LEDs up. One more is 4x Loop button, should be just Red, but nothing happened, even how I try to get the LED on. Or is there some hardware lock for LED's that some led's will work only with Serato?

No, the LEDs receive input signal on the same channel as they transmit, but setting the colour can be a bit tricky. Be sure each of your commands also sends an output with the proper MIDI signal to the proper channel.

I see it can be tricky, but even I do everything right, some of the LEDs working righrt but some not. Example, I map ''4 beat Loop'' and led for that what is same midi note, it's not working, but if I map under that ''1/2X'' and ''2X'' buttons, they work just fine. So there is somewhere something wrong what I can't understand :)

Miikka is correct. Something is not right for some of the buttons and MIDI mapping of LEDs. The PAD MODE buttons between the performance pads are refusing to respond to incoming MIDI messages. My tests are as follows:

- OSX, All drivers and utilities are up to date.

- I am using document, "DJM-S9_List_of_MIDI_Message_E.pdf" for MIDI reference.

- Set up PAD MODE buttons in Traktor to corresponding midi LED output messages (as per Pulse's recommendation), according to aforementioned MIDI implementation document. No LED response from PAD MODE buttons.

- I Created MAX/MSP patch to send Note On/Off messages to each MIDI channel to test LED response. I got all performance pads, 4 Beat Loop, 1/2X, 2X buttons to respond and light up. The Pad Mode buttons did not respond. This includes their SHIFT+Click, Double/Triple Click states. No LED response from PAD MODE buttons.

- I have double and triple checked the corresponding midi messages in the Midi implementation manual and have had absolutely no luck in getting these buttons to light up.

Can Pioneer please confirm the Pad Mode button LEDs will respond to incoming midi messages? Video proof would be amazing, but if supplied with a process to follow in order to get these Pad Mode buttons to light up, it would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

-NC

Miikka, I have found the solution to your issue.

There is an error in the MIDI implementation of the 4 Beat Loop MIDI LEDs.

LEFT SIDE (Deck 1 input)

   - Message sent from button: CH 1, Note A4 (69)

   - Message required to illuminate button: CH 1, Note G#0 (20).

RIGHT SIDE (Deck 2 input)

   - Message sent from button: CH 2, Note A4 (69)

   - Message required to illuminate button: CH 2, Note G#0 (20).

The Midi reference guide makes a somewhat confusing mention of a "PC SETTING UTILITY PREFERENCE" as being a condition for the CH 1, Note G#0 (20) message to be triggered, but I do not understand this. I have a feeling this is a genuine error and a mismatch of messages.

The reason I believe this is an error is because the outgoing/incoming messages for the 4 Beat Loop buttons are both the same when the SHIFT button is held (as per the midi manual).

I'm discovering more as I go along. Mapping this mixer is a real challenge! Will keep you posted  :)

Anyone have more solutions for LED's? Nicolas Caris, Thank you for 4 Beat Loop midi message :)

I have tried to send different programs messages to DJM-S9 but so far no suckes any other LEDs but PAD LEDs. So PAD working just fine. 4 Beat loop is only on when press the button but goes off when release, 1/2 X and 2X loop butons work but only ON.

Hotcue
Roll
Slicer
Sampler
LEDs
not responding any midi messages

Anyway I will map that S9 without unworking LED's fully during this week and posting that map for traktor example here, so if somebody want changes something or need quick use it will be found here after this week :)
