With the release of the XDJ-1000mk2 is the XDJ-1000 no longer supported with firmware updates? Will the XDJ-1000mk2 firmware updates work with the XDJ-1000? I guess I'm a bit confused and want to make sure these relatively recent players are not unsupported paperweights...

No, MK2 updates will not work with MK1. Firmware updates are released to improve a function or to address a problem, but new features will not be added to legacy hardware.
