Rekordbox & Dropbox Cloud Sync Deep Dive

I did a deep dive for rekordbox cloud sync integration with Dropbox. I was worried I would have 2 collections and remain a bit redundant as I wanted to truly have my entire collection within cloud sync. These are the observations from my testing. Hopefully it helps anyone on the fence. I am on the Dropbox professional plan. I still have a few more tests to run as I couldn’t understand a lot of the auto upload or auto playlist sync settings. The one question I have is do iTunes playlists from “bridge” sync to cloud sync or only native playlists created within rekordbox.?

  • Cloud sync gives failure error if there is a missing file - Solution: Reload tags before attempting to upload tracks to cloud
  • You can move or copy files to the cloud. (Moving results in 3rd party app broken links)
  • When you copy files to the cloud it changes physical filenames, and lowercases all.
  • ID3 tags remain in tact
  • Dropbox location of music in the cloud is contained in a folder named  “rekordbox”
  • If Rekordbox sees music from your collection in dropbox it will think it’s already uploaded to the cloud therefore giving cloud symbol. Does not need to be in the “rekordbox” folder on dropbox. It can be located anywhere just as long as it is on dropbox.
  • If uploading music outside of rekordbox desktop app to dropbox (drag n drop folders in finder) it will still give cloud symbol AND all online & iOS features will work as long as you have the appropriate plan.
  • After trying to start over by deleting entire collection & changing the path of my music files on Dropbox, I no longer see new collection files with the cloud symbol after import. This is despite files existing in a Dropbox location. I tried to initiate cloud sync & chose “make a copy” and then I saw an active cloud symbol. File was not moved , nor was there a copy made. Location / path remained where it was. Not sure why that happened but it seems I’ll have to “make a copy” for all of the tracks to initiate new path location. When viewing the location in the column it changes BUT remains the same. Hard to explain but it removes the “/user” path section and just shows the Dropbox path. This is not a self managed collection. These are files within iTunes artist folder location (media/music folder). I tested prior from self managed location as well & cloud sync worked as well.
  • When using Wi-Fi from Opus Quad with an authenticated USB stick songs take about 5 seconds to buffer/load. Entire file is loaded/cached. Works really well considering it’s coming from Wi-Fi and you have access to your entire collection.
