DJM 900 - Recording with Audacity

First off, I'll apologise for being a compete amateur when it comes to software recording..

I have a problem with my settings for recording with Audacity. I have linked the DJM to my macbook and I am running Audacity. There is sound coming into the macbook but the peaks of the waveform seem ridiculously high and turning the master gain down on my mixer has little or no effect.

I have trawled the net for tutorials how to set up Audacity correctly for my mixer but had no luck. I am not sure if I need to change the sample and bit rate of the input to match that of my mixer, but if this is the problem how do I check what these settings are for my mixer as the settings utility does not have an ASIO tab?

Confused and in need of assistance! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Your not the only one that has this issue everything was working fine up until a week and a half ago with my nexus

I have my sampling rates matched. The firmware and software updated. I am exhausted from crawling through as many forums as possible dealing with latency issues and recording. Ive tried every different possible sampling rate that the mixer has to offer and still no luck in fixing the click and pops along with the fast pitched playback generated after the recording is finished. I am beginning to suspect this is a hardware issue.

If there isn't another driver update I will be shipping my nexus back due to it still being under warranty. Ive had nothing but headaches since I bought this mixer. Not a happy customer..

See these two vids which cover recording in Audacity with the 2000:

The only other thing you need to do is make sure you have the LATEST drivers and that you've set the output levels correctly in the CLUB SETUP menu if you're using the digital / USB outputs.

(Yes, I know you said 900, but my 900 still hasn't made its way back from WMC so I can't go and make you a vid for that.)

I can't remember if its in the setting utility or in the club settings menu (hard booting the mixer whilst holding the ON/OFF - UTILITY button until the menu pops up), you should be able to choose your output volume over USB within that menu, -19db, -10db, -5db, 0db I BELIEVE are the options available (there might be a -15db in there, I can't really recall right now :S ).... I have mine set to -10db while trimming my channels slightly above 0 to nominally equalize the output to optimal recording volume.... -5db seems to give a little bit too much clipping of the audio if I were to throw an effect in here or there, it's not overbearing at all, but at mid-yellow range it sounds like the song/speaker is trying to explode even with listening to the finished product at very low volume.... =/ I still have yet to find THE PERFECT recording volume settings, but I think mine will do for now.... hope that is some help to you...

I have tried all of the above suggestions and had no luck I'm afraid!

The thing that confuses me about this is that the majority of the mix will record absolutely fine, but every mix has this issue somewhere or another. Just tried again and recorded a 50 min mix, the vertical lines began approximately 15 mins from the end..(as you can imagine i was not happy!)

I listened to the recording back and the precise moment that it begins is just before a bass drop (but it is no bigger drop than previous tracks had)

Seriously losing patience with my 900 now, such a great piece of kit its a shame things like this happen.

Im going to record from the REC OUT at the back of the mixer instead of the USB and see if there are any changes.

Can you send me a snippet of the recording where it goes from normal to loud?
