DJM-700 or DJM-850

Hi guys,

I'm new here and I have already a question.

Until now I'm using a basic MIDI controller to make some mixes at home.

More and more people are starting to like my mixes, and are asking me to play on parties but ...

As you know are most of the parties equipped with real DJ gear (DJM & CDJ), and that's the reason why I want to focus on DJing on real stuff.

My interest goes to a DJM-700 + 2x CDJ-850 which is around €xxx

Only then I can get used to the DJM & CDJ although they are not the real top like DJM-900/2000 & CDJ-2000

What do you think of my proposed setup?

Is it worth it to upgrade from a DJM-700 to a DJM-850, or more worth it to go for a CDJ-900 instead of a CDJ-850?

Please argument why you should do it, or why not.

Kind regards,

Levii

Levii,

Hi, and welcome.

The setup you propose will certainly prepare you well to use pioneer club set ups.

However as you suggested, I would certainly consider saving the money on the mixer to get the cdj900s instead. Coming from a midi controller I guess all of your tunes are on a computer or hard drive, with the 900s you can share a single data source between the two players, research the prodj link and rekordbox for more info. Other forum members may be able to back me up on this, I'm new to pioneer gear myself so I hope what I've said here is true - but do some more research comparing the players.

Good luck making your choice, Loosh

Hi Looshus, Maybe you are right to keep the DJM-700 and go for the CDJ-900. There is still a cash back action running for these players so the difference is "only" €xxx in total. It's still a big amount to say in a minute yes I will buy it or no I will not. I'm still searching the Internet daily to get a compare between the DJM-700 and DJM-850 but I'm unable to find it. is it only the effects per channel, Fx color and digital output which makes the difference?

@Levii > I remember most people advised me when I started DJing to invest in a mixer first. At this point though, I would say you should go with the DJM700 and upgrade to the CDJ900s rather than the 850s - you'll appreciate the more functions packed into the 900s. Are you intending on using them with software? Rekordbox might be a good solution for you. Either way, I hope you can test out the different gear before you buy and see what feels right for you.
