So no confusion, I would either have to upgrade to a djm-900 or get a soundcard, but seeing how there's a soundcard on board the djm-900, I could sell my 800 and be set.....?

Folgen[SOLVED] Noob question. DJm-900 soundcard use...
OK, so I just bought an ableton push (backorder) (I have two cdj-2000's and a djm-800, but I never have connected my computer before)
In order to use Ableton Push going through my mixer, I have to use my macbook in the setup, right?
Which means I need an external soundcard, right?
Assuming I got that straight, can I use the DJM-900 as my soundcard?
Can I also plug in my ipad to the mixer as well? are there multiple ports or only one?

The Ableton Push is a controller-only device, you would need some variety of soundcard, whether it's a DJM900 or an external device that you then route into a DJ mixer. The DJM900 would allow you to have four stereo pairs from Ableton sent to the mixer (one pair per channel) and all that would be connected by just the USB cable (whereas an external soundcard would require audio cables from it to the mixer).
You could also connect your iPad, but you'd lose a channel from the software if you switched the input from the USB (Ableton) source to the iPad.
