poor sound quality when recording from djm800

Hey everyone, it's been a while since I ventured into a forum so apologies if I'm in the wrong place. I've recently tried recording my vinyl to cd. First, recording from rec out to a USB ext sound card using creative sound recorder. When I listened back the sound was muffled and squelchy(i know, like listening underwater). Figured it maybe the audio cables on the deck seeing as it's twenty years old. But I recorded a mix through separate channels using cdjs with the same results. I'm hoping this is something fairly simple I've over looked. Many thanks for any help in this.

I'm guessing it has something to do with your recording setup. Can you provide a bit more info on that aspect of the setup? What are the recording settings (samplerate / bitrate), what software are you using, what are the levels at, etc.

I use creatives base sound recorder with soundblaster thx trustudio proposal number sb1240. I turn the master to Max and adjust the trim as required. My speakers are rokits r5 so adjust the volume there where necessary. Bit rate ill send tomorrow. Sorry for the late reply. Had a meltdown with hardware recently. It's nit been much fun. I dont really rate that sound recorder anyway. I have audacity and goldwave. Maybe ill give them a go first. Got a lot of vinyl i want to burn and until this is resolved i dont see the point. Thanks buddy
