OK, what gives?

We've all seen the picture on Facebook - so, come on, give us a juicy teasing detail...

That's Virtual DJ software. And it will be announced sept 29th.

Hopefully there will be a traktor version or atleast maybe have a traktor overlay. Would be nice if just one physical product with multiple software mappings and overlays.

I still bought a T1 today on super sale. Now to see if I keep the T1 or trade for this new controller. I only really need 2 decks.

acording to the guy doing the demo it looks like a amature or entry level product. will be much cheaper than the t1 and s1 and even the guy says its designed to allow non djs to get an intro on mixing on pioneer gear. personally i prefer the s1. its got the same cdj djm layout, user the prefrence to mix with or without aids (by turning beatgrids off and analaysing files without bpm, this disables the sync button), and users serato trusted itch software.

Gavin, can I ask why you deleted a link to a few still pictures of the new unit, yet are happy to leave an entire video of it?

Doesn't seem to make much sense to me.

@icewang64 > Yes, thats a Pioneer DJ Product Executive. The unit was on demo at IFA this week only.

@Capitan > Those links pointed to an outside DJ blog / forums which is a no-no.

@ Geminimech - Sorry for hitting such an obviously raw nerve of yours - but I was simply making a joke ...at my own expense.

You see, I'm old and knackered and I really would like an automix function and a cardboard cut-out of me so I don't have to be at some gigs - or, at least, a big comfy chair if my participation is completely unavoidable. I'd also like to see the Pioneer Babe-In-A-Box finally get a release date, but that's another discussion entirely...

For the record, I don't care how anyone-else DJ's; from wax cylinders to computer software. Frankly, it's none of my business - and, IMHO, no one way of doing it has ever really had a major significant advantage over another. Vinyl is tactile, but heavy. CD's help you to have more tunes at your disposal, but are more than a little impersonal (especially CD-R's). Software is brilliant from a live remixing point of view, but really suffers from hardware manufacturers lagging massively (but inevitably) behind software developers.

So, don't get precious about the 'Sync' button and how often it gets used. I certainly won't when I make the plunge into solely DJ'ing with software.

@Cheeba;  Again I didn't want it to sound inflammatory, I just wanted to emphasize how there seems to be an idea running rampant about how anyone with a controller is trash, and taken out of context (which it seems as I have done) your joke seemed to further that line of thought.  And as though it may seem the rant was directed at you, it really is not.  I just spent a month reading about horror stories from others who have purchased these (S1/T1) and other rival controllers, brought them to gigs, and were subsequently shredded if only for the fact that the hardware has a sync button be it lit or unlit...This is not true of someone who uses their high end CDJ's as HID controllers in Traktor, of which there really isn't much of a difference.  I would imagine for a someone that is a proven DJ, whatever medium you choose to mix with isn't much of a concern.  The unfortunate reality of starting up in this current time with all of the digital options available, is that for someone who starts with a controller, the idea seems to be out there that they haven't done it the 'hard' way, which I think is ludicrous.  Should you have a cd binder and be familiar with CDJ's?  Sure absolutely, should you get hammered if you aren't?  I'm not so sure.  This has factored heavily into my decision to keep my CDJ's, if not to stay familiar, to still be able to squash all ideas of a lack of credibility by being able to show up with some cd's and do much of the same things.

As far as getting 'precious' with the sync button, I'd rather get precious with the Babe-In-A-Box ;).

Cheers Cheeba, and my sincere apologies for coming off like a sour douche.

I don't believe it's only for Mac. That wouldn't make much sense, on a number of levels.

@ Geminimech - You can't factor the idiocy of belligerence into rational argument. Exactly the same cries went up (about what "real" DJ'ing is) when CDJ's first started to make significant inroads into club set-ups - and they were being made by exactly the same sorted of ill-informed, blinkered Luddite DJ's, too busy clinging-on to their increasingly redundant technology and too scared to actually open their eyes to the possibilities of something new.

The plain fact of it is; there are many different kinds of DJ'ing - and no-one can do it "right" for everyone - but I'm cool with that...

There will def be other mappings. Also note that different world regions sometimes come with diff software. Maybe the US version will come with traktor or itch. I am hoping traktor.

of course it can be made to work with traktor.. but without native support some things rarely work right (high resolution jogs) and things like that. Glad I grabbed a ddj-t1 a few weeks ago.

It's compatible with all MIDI software.  In the US, next spring, it will ship with Traktor as well.

@markoerregger

What's your big issue with VDJ?

Have you even tried it?

It's just as capable as any other DJ software out there, and in some respects more capable.

Pioneer are shipping it with this controller - that should tell you something.

It's true - VDJ is a serious contender which is never taken as one.  Give it a chance and you may like it, especially for the feature:price ratio.
