[CLOSED] DDJ ERGO-V AUX INPUT- HELP

Hi everyone im new on here and just getting to grips with my new DDJ ergo but im after a bit of help. Im using virtual DJ LE edition with the controller and everything works fine however im trying to connect my deck (turntable) into the AUX input so i can play vinyl as well but no sound is coming through. Ive tried selecting AUX input, messing around with the volume at the back but still no joy. Am i going about this all the wrong way or is this not even possible.

NOTE - Im trying to record my vinyl onto my laptop so was hoping this would be a easy way with virtual DJ recording.

Cheers

@dave > That would be because the AUX input is for line-level devices, not turntables which require a phono pre-amp.

@pulse> thanks for the quick response. I've even tried using a iPod and the ipod connection to the aux input and not even a bit of sound from that (thought it was meant for iPod). I click on the AUX option in vdj but it doesn't highlight......is there a idiots guide to connect a outside source to the ddj ergo as I'm going round and round.

P.s my decks have a digital line out option (Stanton st 150) plus tried using my beringhur mixer but still no sound.....thought this would be a line level device?

Cheers

You don't need to click anything in the software; there are two volume controls on the device, one on the back, one on the top.  It should send the audio directly to the master.

Hi there,

I am also a new owner of ddj ergo for the last 3 weeks. Last week, i wanted to try aux in with my ipod nano 5 without any success.

I have seen ddj t1 video and it was working by only connecting ipod to aux and playing some tracks from ipod. There are no complex connections or buttons for aux. So what whould be the problem? What am i doing wrong? Thanks.

@Ismail > Connect the iPod, turn the iPod volume to 100%, make sure the switch on the back of the ERGO is set to AUX, then adjust the volume dial on the back to 100%, set the MASTER VOL to around 3 o'clock, then adjust the AUX/MIC VOL until you hear the audio.

Sorry guys -- here's what you need to do...

You MUST have the software running in order to pass the input through the software to the outputs; the AUX / MIC input are NOT direct-to-master.

In VirtualDJ you need to set the input as a MICROPHONE or LINE depending on what you're connecting.  If it is a LINE input, you need to assign it to one of the decks.  In the ERGO skin, you would click the AUX button on the skin to enable the input for that deck.  If it is configured for MIC input, you'll see it at the top of your screen.

In Traktor, same thing goes - you need to set the input as MIC or LINE within the config.  Either way, you assign the input to one of the decks configuring the audio input in the settings, then to switch between a virtual deck and a live input, you can click on the deck letter and select LIVE INPUT.

If you still can't figure it out, please ask!

I don't see this issue directly in this chain but I am trying to connect another laptop to the AUX input. It works OK for a short period of time then I get distortion (a sort of phasing 'effect') on the output for both the ERGO and the laptop. The only way to fix it is to go into the config and turn off the input altogether. Because I am playing out with another DJ and we only have a pair of XLRs to connect into the pub audio system, I basically can't use the ERGO if I can't run him via the LINE input. As an alternative, I connect the ERGO to one channel on the in house mixer - and the other channel to my colleague's laptop. He gets audio output....I don't. I'm guessing that a 'mixer' like the ERGO, going into another mixer is a no no then?

More on the above comment: After some experimenting I have managed to get my ERGO at least playing through the in-house mixer via it's AUX channel, so at least I can use it!

In the meantime I loaded the latest ERGO firmware from the Pioneer site. This seemed to work in a 30 minute test at home with the main laptop and another laptop connected to the AUX. I connected my colleague's laptop in the pub - and within 5 minutes the distortion returned. Only difference between the test and live was a different laptop.

I now refer back to Pulse's previous post as I tried this too and assigned a deck to AUX (ERGO skin):_ "In VirtualDJ you need to set the input as a MICROPHONE or LINE depending on what you're connecting.  If it is a LINE input, you need to assign it to one of the decks.  In the ERGO skin, you would click the AUX button on the skin to enable the input for that deck". _

With the VDJ LE (non Pro) version, the configuration gives only 2 choices of INPUT - None and Microphone.

Pulse - should I see LINE as a choice? I had the 20 day Pro version trial and I'm sure it wasn't present there either.

You said: "If you still can't figure it out, please ask!".....I'm asking!

Thanks Bob

Sorry, I'll have to fire up VDJ and figure that one out -- I'll try and get back to you on this one tomorrow.

Hi guys.

I am trying to use my aux / mic input too.

I am having the same issues... AUX/MIC don't work.

I have DDJ ERGO V working with traktor 2. I did all instructions you suggested, checked in the back of the controller the volume knob and the switch aux/mic.... and still not working.

In traktor section AUDIO SETUP > PHONO/LINE... My Input Channel appears "not supported"

What should I do in this case ?

I just thought I'd comment on this seeing as I've had no luck for months searching for an answer.

Regarding what Bob Hughes said about the distortion through the AUX input of the DDJ ERGO V.

I have been trying to use this with another DJ in many venues and it has caused nothing but problems. After 5 minutes or so I get major distortion through my sound rig and I am forced to turn off the AUX input in the config menu of VDJ all together. This is not good when some one is playing live trhough the sound rig using the AUX input as you can imagine.

Pioneer, what is causing this problem and how do we sort it? I checked this same thread almost a year ago and no one has responded to it regarding this problem. I think this is an issue that needs to be resolved.

I am using VDJ Pro.
