Wego freezing and becoming unresponsive whilst Serato DJ continues

Hi all.

The issue I'm having seems to be across many controllers and pc/mac configurations.

After an hour or so of playing last night one deck was playing and the second deck was in a 16 bar loop and in the process of being mixed in.

Then the lights go out on the left hand side of the controller and it is completely unresponsive but the Serato DJ software continues.

I had to power the controller off and on whilst babbling on the mic until it came back on.

This has happened once on every gig I've done and to be honest I'm just about done with this controller.

I also notice the sound quality isn't great on the Wego as you can hear a warbling in the background of tracks.

I usually find these crashes happen when I'm playing a track on Deck B and about to mix in a track that's looping on Deck A.

I've also contacted Serato but they seem to blame pc or controller hardware.

The Wego has got the up to date 1.09 firmware.

I'm running Serato DJ 1.6.1 with Wifi/BT turned off. The buffer setting is set at 20ms or 1024Mb, kernel set at 3.

My laptop is an HP Touchsmart AMD 2.3GHz Dual Core with 4Gb Ram and a 240Gb SSD fully optimised.

All drivers are up to date, laptop is really quick and never shows any dropout warnings and CPU loads never gets above 1/4.

Laptop is set to high performance and is always plugged in.

I thought it could have been a usb cable or power issue but I have run it with a hub and it still crashes.

I currently use a usb Y cable so that it uses power from 2 usb ports with a short uprated belkin cable but still crashes.

This laptop used to run Serato Itch with a Vestax VCI300mkII and VFX unit with not a single issue ever!

I can't see these issues being Serato related since I've seen many other threads where people have the same issue using VDJ and Traktor.

So it's either the controller firmware or the controller itself, but then other users have similar issues across the Pioneer controller range.

I really like this little controller but the embarrassment of crashing during live sets is killing me.

I might get a new laptop soon but I'm not keen on Win8 and I'm also thinking about getting the DDJ-SR but if these issues still persist then I'll go nuts!

Or I could just get another VCI300 and stick the Wego on Ebay.

So before I go buying anything can you provide any sort of feedback or suggestions with reference to the crashing and also the sound quality.

Regards

Tony

So it seems this issue was because my laptop wasn't up to the task even though it was really fast and didn't appear to struggle.

This may be the reason why Serato doesn't support AMD processors.

My new laptop is an Intel i5 4200 processor with the same 240Gb SSD and Ram udgraded to 16Gb, it absolutely flies and can run Serato latency down to 2ms with no dropout warnings.

So the Wego freezing issue is resolved and the sound quality seems a lot better.

The only slight issue that remains is that every now and then I'll hit Play and the deck stops almost immediately.

So I'll probably stick with this controller for now as it's so portable.
