no sound from speakers (Serato)

hi i just purchased a ddj-s1 and began to set it up. Im currently using serato dj and both tracks appear and the controller is reconized. on the controller it self the levels show and i can play and scratch the song without volume,  the song plays but no sound is produced. I currently using a rca to auxiliary to hook up my computer speakers to the board (that do not work also) .  I just bought two DDJ-SR and was wondering if the xlr Cables are the only cord that will work with these speakers. Please help thanks so much everyone.
