Offcourse... Rekordbox is the foundation for the whole system and that certainly works on the CDJ-2000 for the next years.
Also, what more could you want on the CDJ that would make the current obsolete ?
I'm going to buy 2 x CDJ 2000 & DJM 900, but I'm wondering whether it is safe to do now. It's quite an investment, and I want to be sure that I'll be having latest gear, at least for couple of years from now. So 2 years passed already from CDJs release, are they still future-proof, what do you think?

The cdj's have only been out about a year and 7months so 2 years has not passed since the release, I can't see a new one being announced for some time, at least another 2 years IMO
If you decide to do so, please have a look at all the posts on this forum. Consider all the problems going on then make your decision. So you wont be another unwarned and frustrated with Pioneer's feedback on problems people show up here!
Well, all forums are usually full of people looking for a solution for their problem, you rarely see people who just post that they are happy. I've been seeing more than enough problems with serato/itch/traktor/ last 5 or 6 years, so I'm hardened in that respect.
I'm happy :)
I have had mine since april last year and due to exchange rate differences and fluctuations and the japan earthquake, the price of a pair of cdj actualy have gone up by us $ 400.I am glad i bought my 2000s then and i wiuld not use anything else.Note that over the years,my pioneer decks evolved from cmx 3000 to 1000 mk3s and then playing on my 2000 was just the flexibility and transition i needed and I have no regrets despute recent firmware and error code issues.i jam using good old burned cds and a pen drive and a hdd for backyp and beleive ne, i have been lucky enough never to get an error.firmware 4.1 was reliable for me and i am sticking to it until something better and definitly stabke comes out
I think you have version 4.01 on your CDJ-2000 and not 4.1.
Because, the latest firmware version is 4.04.
Yes. If you need decks, you aren't going to go wrong buying them now at all. I also got mine before the prices changed. I feel lucky. I haven't had any errors either. Or lock ups. I got mine in Summer 2010.
Let's look at it this way - Pioneer, like all good tech companies, are constantly seeking to improve their gear and update their products lines (just look at Apple and how quickly they churn out updates). A company that fails to develop and pioneer...
In my opinion, the CDJs are relatively future proof (just remember Moore's Law).
You won't find a better CDJ and I'm sure it'll be able to meet the needs of all your demands. Good luck with your purchase!
I just got mine a few weeks ago. I don't regret it one bit. I got a bit nervous coming to the forums here and hearing about all the problems. You have to remember that for every person on here with a problem, there are 100 others that are jamming away with no issues. Sure any gadget is going to have hiccups here and there but don't stress man, I absolutely love my new decks. I suspect you will too.
Blimey, has it been 2 years already? :-/
"Also, what more could you want on the CDJ that would make the current obsolete ?"
This is me showing restraint, didn't I do well!? :-))))
i'd recommend them. as long as your ok with the music dropping out with error message every once in a while. just so your aware of what your getting into. if absolute rock solid stability is #1 on your priority list then you might want to consider serato as well (or to save $$, serato with a pair of 1000MK3s)
@DubLN > What kind of a statement is that? That's like trying to sell a car to someone and telling them its a fantastic car but they'll need a jump start every 500 miles. Personally (and at the risk of jinxing myself), I have NEVER had a single drop out on any Pioneer gear (and I use ALL of it) for all types of events.
I'm not denying there have been some issues with the CDJs but the majority of these issues are to do with corrupt audio files.
sorry, just being honest. quite a lot of ppl (myself included) have experienced this happening and IT IS NOT strictly because of corrupt files.
(same file, from the same HDD plays fine the next night). so maybe it's not corrupt or just corrupt enough to randomly decide to NOT play. (??)
or how bout an MP3 Cd that simply stops half way thru a song. throw it in the car cd player later that night and same song plays fine. Jus sayin that if you get these decks they are dope MOST of the time but don't count on being one of the lucky ones that has "NEVER had a drop out ever".
And I've actually bought a dope '72 Triumph motorcycle knowing damn well that I better carry a tool bag with me at all times! It's just a decision to make. do the pros outweigh the cons.
Same here, i have no issues so far (except that disc thing) but in my realistic scenario the players have been working great, no issues 2 months in ;) also remember that all the players have their fair share of issues and for me the CDJ 2000s are close to the perfect decks, think about what you really need because the only reason i didnt get the 1000s was because they only play CDs wich is fine for playing in clubs but i like to practice and have the flexibility of the rewritable media (the 400s spoiled me).
Now that i think my perfect deck would be a cdj 850 with the wave form display of the 1000 and the hot cues
also i have never had a dropout but i dont play from CDs, i mostly play from DJ link
On many occasions whilst playing out i have had error messages on one deck and then the other. To resolve the problem ive had to restart both decks which means a quiet club except for everyone shooting at you thinking your a rubbish dj. This is common! they play cds fine but when linking they can struggle , sometimes im on edge all night not trusting the decks wait for there next error.
Well then theres rekordbox possibly the worst piece of dj software ever developed, constantly crashes ! some many simply things missing from it , thats if you can get it to open. i.e. export to playlist - this file all-ready exists in your collection/playlist - could go on but iv e all-ready wasted another morning just trying to open rekordbox.
Ive always been a fan of pioneer and cannot believe the state of these products which i have spent £1000's on! Im a dj not a computer programmer - too much emphasis is put on us to try and get your corrupted program working . "Do this check list try that" How about you release some software that works before you totally ruined your well earned reputation?
Rant over back to burning CDS!
Andy,
I also think this is a very expensive piece of hardware to have so many flaws and problems. There is the master tempo one, many people complaining about drifting and I found myself having to open my decks to fix a problem with the outer ring of the jogwheel which was sometimes acting like I was touching the upper part of the plate. So I totally agree with you! But when it comes up to using a USB data link you have to be sure to be using the best equipment so it wont make you blush in front of the crowd. Buying the right hd if you're going to use one is a must. I made an extensive research at the old forum times before buying mine and till now I didnt have a single problem about that. Its a My Passport from Western Digital with no power cord. Simple to carry, small and I liked it so much that I even bought a backup. Now I play with one on each deck with same data inside. If one ever fails the other one will hold the deal through the data link between decks. But hey, almost a year using a single one and never had a problem at all. Believe me, I remember seeing some guys having problems with some brands of HDs and also with what hey used to format the HDs. That seems to be also an important point to be observed. Some problems with HDs are also related with the fact that they have the power feed coming straight for the USB. In my opinion playing with the pc connected to your gear (through Rekordbox) is not the best option when you want to minimize the crashing or problems possibitities. Doing that way you are submitted on how well your operational system is running. Windows is shit we all know that and I've seen some friends that use timecoded with a Mac having problems too during a gig. I agree that totally starts burning yourself if it happens more than once or frequently. You will get known like this: "hey there comes the crashy dj".
So its a fact that having only a good and trustfull HD connected to your decks minimizes the chances of one of the biggest problems with the feared "dj crash" simply because it discards the operational system problems. It can be windows, mac or whatever. Believe me, someday it will happen! But if you really want to use your laptop plugged to your gear to feed them with your music, then you need to be sure to leave the guy JUST for that. No other programs, heavy antivirus, firewalls, a cache full of stuff from your last visit to the web, etc, etc, etc. That means having your laptop exclusively for your music and absolutely nothing else. Since the cdjs have so many researching features for you to pick up your next songs or making a box of your fav tracks for your next set I really think its safer (and cheaper) to use a HD connected straight to them. Maybe this can be a solution to your problems... I quit vinyl for being so expensive and hard to carry around and didnt go for timecoded for not trusting on softwares (OS and programs). I would not be able to focus on doing my thing right while looking at the laptop and thinking "omg will it crash? is it slow? is it running smooth? I think its freezing!"
I can feel your frustration for having this problems in front of the crowd so, any help you may want with how to find the best piece of HD (mine work 101% !!!!) and how to get it formatted and ready to go I'll be glad to help bro. There's nothing worse than silence on the dance floor!
So, the bottom line - CDJ 2000 are nice, but they have slight problems with hardware (jog, buttons, usb-port) and some with firmware. Does that probably mean that we will see MK2 soon?
I doubt there will be an mk2 anytime soon, they need to getthe mk1 right first, Most of the issues with the cdj is FW related
Thanks Cello
I too have a self powerd wd passport 250 gb and have never had a probem with that, It tends to happen if im using a sd card in player 1 and also linking player 2 two the same card. Always whilst both decks are coming from the same source, hence the silence.
Like you say you cant get into your set whilst your thinking "any minuet now its going to go"
I stress this dosent happen every time and compared to the amount of mixing they handle its a small percentage of the time but when it does happen it is a show stopper!
Overall the decks are fine its just software issues - If i had a copy of rekordbox i could open and organise my tunes id be a happy man. 1.5 crashes on startup on my mac ive uninstalled it reinstalled followed the guide for corrupted databases and still i cannot open it.
Please Pioneer release a bug free version asap or make the old versions available for download again.
Rekordbox has started working again, i dont know how but it has . So once again im a happy pioneer Dj ; )
For obvious reasons, this thread is now closed to comments.
This is neither confirmation or denial of new products in development but, to be honest, if one of my favourite tech companies wasn't working on its next big product right now I'd be very disappointed.
Pioneer continually strives to update and improve its products to the best of its ability. And, contrary to what many of you think, Pioneer takes your comments and criticisms very seriously (with these forums being one of the first lines of communication).
