Refurbished CDJ 2000s

I'm in the market for a pair of 2000s and I saw that pioneerelectronics.com sells refurbished units for $1300. I've been trying to get straight answers from tech support about their condition but they seem to dance around it. The only information I was able to get out of them is that they have no idea where the units come from or what sort of refurbishing Pioneer performs in order to resell them; only that they could possibly be returned or blemished units. Can anyone give me more information about these things? Has anyone purchased any of the refurbished items off Pioneers' website? Any help is appreciated.

@Honest > Refurbished units are usually units which have been used for display / demonstration purposes or units Pioneer has repaired to full functionality. If you do buy a unit and you find (unusually) that it is not working correctly Pioneer will rectify the situation.

Hi Gavin,
Thanks for the quick reply; I do have a a few more questions though and I hope you don't mind. What sort of blemishes and scratches are typical? Anything that would disrupt the viewing of the screen? Are these the promo models that were shipped around the world? What if I receive a model that isn't mechanically faulty but severely scratched, dented, and blemished? What are my options in that situation? Can I return the item if it is only damaged cosmetically? I just want to know what to expect should I choose to go this route.

They're usually B-stock; open boxes that may have been on display somewhere.  I know in the US that our demo gear isn't sold as B-stock because it's driven into the ground!

They will likely show wear on the display but nothing that would impede seeing the information displayed therein, and there may also be small scratches or scuffs on the face of the product.  Usually these products have been tested by tech support and have passed a QC check.  If there is only cosmetic damage, I doubt there would be any reason for return as that's a condition of buying a refurb.  You'll either have a 30-day or 1-year warranty, I'm not entirely sure.

As Pulse so eloquently put it regarding refurbished HDJ-2000's once... think of them as having passed QC twice.

I bought 2 refurbished CDJ-2000's from Pioneer recently and they look as new.  They came in a generic Brown box with a manual, cords and Rekordbox.  They still had all the clear plastic protective fim around the platter.

My huge disappointment is the 2 units came with different build dates (one June 2010 and the other July 2011).  Why would I care you ask?  Put them side-by-side and see the HU GE difference of LCD display color (newer ones are more blue) - see the other comments on this thead from other users.

The other things to keep in mind is they come with a lousy 90 day warranty and there is a NO refund policy.  Other electronic manufacturers (except for Sony) almost always have at least a one year warranty and allow a 30 day money back return policy.

@PS > When purchasing multiple refurbished units, there is no guarantee that you'll have two units with identical build dates.  There was a change in supplier for the LCD panel and each has a different white-point (resulting in one looking more blue than the other).

I'm sorry you're not happy that they don't match visually, but if there is nothing physically wrong with the unit, ie. it's not dead-on-arrival or has another functional flaw, there wouldn't be no exchange given even if the policy allowed.

Sorry!
