[SOLVED] PRO DJ Link

Is there any chance of PRO DJ Link being implemented for the 850 series? Through the USB connection as there is no LAN. I spend an indordinate amount of time switching USB sticks back and forth.

Just wondering, I do realize there are other ways to play music through the 850 apart from USB sticks.

BTW, can I also ask if there is a recommended maximum size limit for USB sticks or can I expect anything available to work?

I doubt they will introduce link on the 850s as they are for top level players only,

I have 16gb sticks and they work fine and i have seen others use 32 and 64, this should be plenty to put on one stick and last long enough.

@y-tou > No, there are no plans (and there never will be) to integrate the LAN function into the CDJ850 - you need a more expensive player for that increased functionality.

As Pionix indicates, you shouldn't really encounter any problems with USB sticks.

A few comments for this topic:

I have tried several USB sticks (16GB Silicon Power, 32GB TDK, 32GB EMTEC, 64GB TDK) all working fine.

But when playing from USB 2.0 HDDs I have recognized following data transfer errors:

  • Sometimes the USB link status led starts blinking and datatransfer is getting slow, or interrupded after 20-30 minutes gig

  • When playing mp3 files directly from a connected usb 2.0 HDD, some folders seems to be Emtpy, like CDJ-850 is not recognising the FAT structure correctly. -> After disconnecting the external HDD from my CDJ-850-> Double checking the mentioned folders on a Win. Laptop -> suprise the mp3s are there. Then after reconnecting the HDD to my CDJ-850-> it can see the content of the previously Empty folder.

Is this only a software BUG (wrong FAT32 handling) or are the CDJ-850s having any size limitations in handling USB 2.0. External HDDs ???

Just to be correct I have used following HDDs and recognized the sme errors described above.

  • LG HXD5 2,5" 500GB (Formatted for FAT32)

  • WD Blue WD5000LPVT 2,5" 500GB (Formatted for FAT32)

I would really appriciate a clear technical answer.

@Tamas > If you are having an issue in future, please open your own thread.

The folders that appear to be empty - how many 'layers' deep are they i.e. how many folders do you have to open before you reach them? Have you the HDD partitioned in any way?

Hi Gavin,

The mentioned HDD reading problems occured on various layers (3-5 directories deep)

For example:  E:\Music\Hungarian\HOBO, or  E:\Music\DjTanfolyam\Lajos_winyo2\VanBPM\070_085

Both HDDs are only having one partition.

Could you make such a test with CDJ-850 players using 500GB external HDDs ?

@Tamas > Do your drives require external power or are they bus powered? If they require external power and you haven't it connected, please connect it. Are you sure all the tracks are in a recognised format for the CDJs? Have you tried using Rekordbox?

Hi Gavin,

Both HDDs are working with direct USB 2.0 connection even not having any external power connection, only a "Y" USB cable.

All my music files are 320 KBps mp3 format.

Rekordbox is perfect for a few hundred tracks, to be transfered to a USB pendrive, but it's not able to handle

a collection with 46000 tracks. ->I have tried, but the software was frozing down on a a Toshiba laptop (2,3 GHz Core2 duo, 3GB RAM)..

Could somebody in Pioneers Labs make a simple test with any type of external 500GB HDDs (full of mp3 music), that how is it reading the file structure?

If it helps I can even shoot a small video about the problem I described.

@Tamas > Well, thats likely your problem then - the HDDs aren't getting enough power.
