Hello - I've tried to do a lot of searching on this and I haven't really found the answers I'm looking for. Hoping this helps.
I own a set of CDJ-900s and I play out regularly on a set of 2000's. I also use my USB flash drive to store all of my tracks. This device has not been processed though rekordbox.
The History function does not store my previously played tracks. The folder is empty. However other data is saved, wav form etc.
It would seem to me that it would be a simple function to save the track to the folder once played. Since there is no "played" indicator on tracks.
Is this functionality available only if my library was processed through rekordbox?

@Chris > Yes, you need to use rekordbox for this functionality. When you pop in the USB stick to your computer and open up rekordbox software it will prompt you to ask if you wish to import your history.
