[SOLVED] CDJ 2000 mk1 vinyl mode not working

Hi fellow Pioneerists,

I have a problem with one of my CDJs. The player is well out of warranty having purchased when first released. The problem is that when the player is in vinyl mode the track just stops as if the jog wheel is pressed down. CDJ mode and all other functions work fine and tracks still 'scratch' when the jog wheel is moved forwards/backswards in vinyl mode. My initial thoughts were that the jog wheel springs had tightened following constant use but after attempting to fix; although the centre of the jog wheel has slightly more spring the problem still occurs. If I compare directly to the other CDJ i'm sure it feels looser to press, almost as if a contact/button underneath hasn't popped back up.

Does anybody have any idea what the problem could be and what I can attempt next?

I'm fully aware of the consequences should I damage my unit but as previously noted the unit is out of warranty and I'm hoping it can be resolved without sending to a repair center.

Maybe the sensor ring underneath the platter is bad. Make sure when CDJ's are stored or transported that you never have any kind of weight on the platters. Many moons ago when I had my first CDJ's I had a case for my CDJ's and when the lid was closed it had foam pressed up against the platter to keep it from moving in the case, this was before Decksavers were out and the pressure from the case damaged the sensors under the platter and had the same issue.

Yes it's looking that way. There's never any kind of weight on the platter other than use though. Problem actually occurred whilst decks were in use too which stuck me as strange.

In my 1000's there well we're not actually allowed to talk about the technical stuff

@thedjcandyman > I'm sorry, I know you are aware of the inherent risks involved in opening up the unit but we cannot provide you with technical support here - no one on here is a support engineer. The safest option is to send the unit to an authorised service centre - the links are in the column on the right. At the very least, they'll be able to help you diagnose the problem / order parts / give you details on how to send a unit for repair.
