[CLOSED] Link Ports (ethernet ports)

So we all know that the link ports on the cdj2000mk1's are very weak and fragile. There is no denying this, saying that its only a very small percentage ect.

Knowing this, did pioneer redesign the link ports on the Nexus? With how incredibly important the link function is, I can't imagine a redesign was not performed but you never know.

Can the upgraded ports be fitted to the mk1?

I've noticed the shielding of the ports gets pretty dinged up and caused my cables to jam.  The shielding is pointless since most folks use unshielded cables, but the reason it is there is to meet emissions standards during product testing (they're usually tested with shielded cables, an old homologations trick.)

I pried the shielding out of the way with a screwdriver so cables would not jam up while gigging.

The CDJ-2000 (original) is part number DWG1660. It has both the USB-B connector and the Ethernet jack next to each other on the same PCB. These boards use MagJack brand surface-mount connectors (the weak ones that always break).

The CDJ-2000nxs is part number DWX3312. The USB-B port has been moved to the auxiliary PCB that also contains the USB-A connector (where you insert your USB drive). The nexus uses Pulse brand Ethernet jacks.

In theory these jack types are compatible, however if my memory serves, the grounding tabs are in different locations, the Pulse using forward (near the port opening) tabs, and the MagJack using middle mounted tabs. Those really talented with a soldering iron MIGHT be able to swap one for the other, however that of course voids any warranty, and it would be really easy to screw something up.

So, in short, the answer is NO. You can not upgrade the ports on the original CDJ-2000.

If anyone from product development happens to read this thread, I would like to add:

In future revisions (and all products, really), weak connectors like Ethernet absolutely NEED to be relocated to a daughter PCB. In the case of the CDJ-2000 (original), the problem would not be such a large issue if savvy users and people like myself who maintain large inventories of backline could simply replace a <$50 board containing only a connector and ribbon cable, instead of having to replace a >$250 board containing logic.

yup, sucks that it's on the main, my friend just replaced his and it's already broken again, he's flipping out. Such a waste of money
