[CLOSED] CDJ-2000 Nexus Wifi Capability Possible Solution

Not sure if this has come up in a previous topic but as you know, for the CDJ-2000 Nexus to have access to phones, tablets or laptops wirelessly with rekordbox it has to be hardwired to the wireless router. What if you were to plug  your CDJ's directly into a wireless bridge that connected wirelessly to the router. Would this solve the hardwired router issue? If that's the case, you could just buy and bring a $50 bridge with you and not have to worry about any cables. Any thoughts?

In theory, it would probably work provided that there is a wireless router somewhere on the network, but I wouldn't trust it to be reliable.

You definitely need a router somewhere on the network if you want to use phones, tablets or laptops though. Home routers provide a service called DHCP, which ensures that every device connected to the network has a unique IP address on the network. Without DHCP, the CDJs will probably still work - I assume they have some sort of fallback system to negotiate IP addresses amongst themselves if no DHCP server is present - but your laptops, phones and tablets don't have that sort of fall back. Without the router, the CDJs might see each other, but other devices won't.

In short, it's probably much easier and more reliable to buy a dedicated router and bring that. Leave the network cables connected at the CDJ end so that you don't wear out the port, and just plug/unplug the router end when you need to do so.

The problem with wireless routers at venues is they are usually in a back office or on a different floor altogether than the DJ & Dance floors and therefore cannot be relied upon to stable. I face this problem on a regular basis whilst broadcasting live video and sound from events.

well you wouldnt be using the venues router, you are creating your own network, Get  a wireless router and connect it to you cdj, the laptop wirelessly connects to that and gets it's own 169 address and then there is a way you can wirelessly bridge the second cdj to the first cdj configuring through software i'm sure.

Of course there is not a shot in hell I would ever use this live due to instability, I can almost guarantee you will have an issue throughout gigs, the whole wireless thing is gimmicky and fine for bedroom dj's, if you use this all live on an important event, you are nuts in my opinion

If you brought your own dedicated router you would have to set it up at each venue and it would be a pain. With the Wireless Bridge aka (Wifi Signal Enhancer) you would have basically duplicated the venues router without having to deal with more than you have to. The buffer is really solid on the nexus from what i've experienced so far. Obviously i wouldn't play a venue wirelessly due to possible connection issues but as i will be renting out my gear to dj's and venues i'd like for it to have full functionality.

@BriChi - Ignore my comment. Reread your comment. You're right. You wouldnt need to have a connection to the internet so that would work. Making my own LAN with just the CDJ's connected and no internet connection would work. It is extremely gimmicky and i for one wouldnt use it other than maybe at home or a house party if at all but like i said i'd like to have full functionality for renting.

@A.J. - You've got it! You don't use the router because you want an internet connection, you use the router because it's a wireless access point and a DHCP server for the CDJ network. There are other ways to achieve the same result, but using an off the shelf router is generally a lot easier and cheaper.

I don't know if this helps, but here's a picture of my old wireless setup. I don't use it anymore because the CDJ-2000MK1 doesn't support wireless...

Anyway, it worked perfect with my CDJ-2000NXS's, rekordbox and the rekordbox app for iOS.

@AJ Ortega > It may work, I'm not sure but it doesn't seem so stable - for that reason, we wouldn't recommend it.
