[CLOSED] CDJ 900 Nexus Master Tempo quality

How is the quality of the CDJ 900 Nexus Master Tempo? Is it comparable to the 2000 Nexus? I'm thinking of hooking myself up with a pair of new players but need to know if they sound good at +-6% The old 900's, which I have, tend to sound pretty bad already at +-3%.

Really, the biggest difference comes from the tracks you're playing. ;)

From what I've heard, the CDJ900nxs is good.

Is there any technical specs regarding the master tempo somewhere? One of the reasons I stopped using my original 900's is because of the fact that the master tempo was not reliable. I really don't want to shell out 2200€ just to test if it's good enough on the nexus. When the 2000 Nexus was released one of the major improvements was the master tempo, so any information comparing the two would be highly appreciated.

There are no "specs" per-se as Pioneer would never publish such information for their competition to obtain.

But there must be some information regarding this since a good working master tempo is essential for anyone who mixes harmonically. When the CDJ 2000 Nexus was released the master tempo was advertised with the statement "significant improvement in quality and it now works without artefacts up to ±16%". So at least for the CDJ 2000 nexus there are some specs. Let me ask again, is it the same master tempo or a less quality version in the CDJ 900 nexus?

Just spent some time on the phone with Pioneer Sweden and to my surprise even they couldn't answer my question. I find it really weird that a company doesn't have the answer to the question if a specific function has been improved on a new model in one of their products. It's either

a) It's kept secret for some very strange reason

or

b) It hasn't been improved and they don't want to admit it

I hope for a)

I also want to know this since i think it is very important. The only reason i use Traktor with the CDJ-900's is because the master tempo works better with Traktor but it's a hassle carrying a laptop around and connecting it at gigs every time. If the master tempo on the 900 Nexus is as good as the 2k Nexus i will get the vanue where i spin weekly to buy a pair. I asked the dealer but they couldn't give me a straight answer aswell.. very strange indeed!

This is what The Detective Maneuver has found out so far:

By comparing the two CDJ Nexus models you can see that the "Distortion" factor is a bit higher on the 900 than on the 2000. It's actually exactly the same as on the old CDJ900 model, 0.003 % (JEITA). I haven't got a clue if this faktor is affecting the master tempo but there is undoubtedly a difference in the sound quality between the 900 and 2000 Nexus.

Please Pioneer, shed some light over this issue so I can go back to DJ-ing from playing detective.

I think the overall sound quality doesn't necessarily have to affect the master tempo quality.

From what i understand it is a software algorithm that can be improved with a firmware update.

So i'm hoping there will be a firmware updates for all the other models to improve the master tempo quality.

It is a bit weird the master tempo function worked fine on the CDJ-1000 MKIII and all the models that came after that it was suddenly bad... even on the flagship model CDJ-2000 it wasn't working properly.

One reason I stopped using my old CDJ900's was since no firmware update fixed the master tempo. I really want to start using Pioneer gear again but need to know if this extremely important function for anyone mixing in key has been improved from the old model.

I found this review of the CDJ 900 Nexus (in German) with sound examples but it would be very nice with some hard facts directly from Pioneer.

The master tempo of CDJ-900Nexus is processed in the same way as that of 2000nexus, the sound quality is higher on the 2000 over the 900 as the price would suggest.  I am a firm believer in using the gear that best does the job for what I need, I have bought players before and used them to establish this fact.  Do you know anyone with 900NXS that you could test with?

Bottom line is the master tempo upgraded since the 900, yes, is it where you feel it should be for you, ?

So, I finally bought a pair of CDJ 900 Nexus and tested the Master Tempo function hooked up to my Adam A7's. I'm happy to report that the Master Tempo has been extremely enhanced and are miles ahead of the original 900's. Even on notorious tracks that distorts on +- 3% on the old gear, I couldn't produce any artifacts even on +- 10%. In short, it sounds awesome!
