[TICKETED] XDJ-R1 Freeze with High Pitch Sound

Hi

I have a new XDJ-R1 running 1.08, have not connected any devices, used USB input and CD input only. I have once output the sound into my computer.

Twice in 2 days the unit has completely stopped when tracks from the USB stick were playing on the deck, and yu get a high pitch screech, the only way to rectify is to turn off and on the unit.

Will updating to 1.09 resolve this? It really is a great piece of kit if it wouldnt freeze and just work. Disapointed there are still these issues.

Can someone help?

Hi John,

I think personally that when the WLAN is set to auto , it picks up other wi-fi signals on the unit causing confusion in the software,

I have had issues ranging from song's stopping for no reason, the cue changing from cd mode to vinyl mode mid set, the whole unit crashed once

during a gig, causing everything to freeze, the BPM tempo alters on its own sometimes as well.

Now I have changed the WLAN setting, I have played a 2 hour set in my room every day for a week without any problems at all.

Pulse,as discussed previously,as I am located in Greece and my Xdj-r1 was purchased from Australia, you told me that I had to return through Pioneer electronics Australia of which I did and they had it for almost 4 weeks. No fault or abuse to the unit what so ever.I have now returned to Greece and the unit has done the same thing again. What am I supposed to do with a unit that has been now checked by Pioneer and that still freezes for no apparent reason? It is quite obvious that with so many buyers of this model and having the same exact problem that this is a manufacturers fault and Pioneer will not take responsibility for it.I have followed all your instructions and in my case the shipping back and forth has cost me the equivalent of purchasing another unit.I do not want a refund from Pioneer I am after proper warranty support on a major problem.Either a replacement unit or an alternative product that will not cause such headaches and make complete fools of us as Djs as it has done so many times in the past.

If you cannot answer my questions please direct me towards somebody who can at Pioneer as this is totally unacceptable.

@Theo > Based on the details provided, the engineers have the following information for you:

A USB stick or a hard disk could be a culprit of these problem. Data stored in such devices could be damaged or corrupt and such corrupt tracks could not be read by XDJ-R1, even though they can be read by the computer. Please format the USB device using your computer and re-import all the tracks back to the device from rekordbox. We hope this method could solve the problems you're experiencing.

What a fantastic unit in theory - unfortunately it doesn't seem to work in practice! I returned two units, both with USB freezing issues and also on CD playback, the USB devices and CDs work perfectly on my CDJ 900s, my question is Pioneer must know by now this unit is not fit for purpose and are they working on a new design with better hardware? I would give it a try and as many many people have said on here they just want it to do what it says it can do.

I would love to give an improved (hardware) unit a try and see if it functions ok, out of curiosity has anyone tried the Numark all in one system? I'm thinking of giving that a try as these units are great for smaller gigs but I don't want to end up with something else that doesn't work as it is advertised!

Just read your comments Theo, I had exactly the same problem with Pioneer, couldn't find the fault and charged me £50 for my troubles! eventually got a full refund when I provided video evidence of the unit freezing on USB mode and CDs jumping but playing perfectly on my CDJ 900s, they really need to up their game on this unit and get it sorted once and for all, again it's a great idea but as you say can let you down big time!

Hello, I have the XDJ-R1 around 6 weeks (playing 30 min every second day) now and had no problems till last week. I only play rekordbox analyzed tracks form USB. Last week I had two crashes with high pitch sound. As Adrian said Wifi Settings might be a problem, I switched of Wifi completely because I don't use Remotebox. The unit is running fine now, I also did a 4 hour set with no Problems. So Pioneer's engineers should take a look a the Wifi!

Right we're do I start, this thing has caused me problems from day one. It has froze during a few gigs and had to turn it off and reset to use again, very unprofessional. My folders language and a few songs have come up in Chinesse !!!! The song details don't come up fully. Everything is up to date. Tried different iPads, tried songs that have and have not been annualised to rekord box. What a piece of crap and thinking I'm buying a good quality , my cheap equipment I had never did any of this. It locks up and you cannot use the unit or ipad , you have to turn it off and start over , not a good look during a booking. Have photos and videos of all the problems,

This unit has caused me so many problems so I decided to go back to the shop on Monday and will contact pioneer again to many problems and getting worse by the day. I cannot chance taking this out and have lost many bookings as I do not have anything else to take out, I cannot rely on this unit at all. THIS ITEM IS NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE, I want a refund or a something that works, by the comments I have been reading it looks like everyone is experiencing the same problems and this should be taken of the shelf as FAULTY !!

Yes Ayse, it is really frustrating to work with unreliable DJ-Hardware. I am also thinking of returning the XDJ-R1 and switch to something else!

It takes all the fun of DJing if you don't know when the unit will freeze next.

Please Pioneer take a look at this Problem, perhaps it is really the Wifi causing Problems!

Couldn't agree more Ayse, as I said in earlier posts I ended up sending 2 units back, luckily I have a pair of CDJ 900s and a DJM 800 I can use but just wanted something more compact for smaller gigs, surely Pioneer must realise  it is a hardware issue and no amount of firmware updates are going to fix it, I had problems with the Cd players and the USB drives and never used the wi-fi so I don't think that is the problem, they have to recall this item as faulty-has anyone out there got one that works properly with all the playback options?

I have the same problem with the unit freezing almost every gig its used now, i for the most part use VDJ with the unit and i know its not the laptop causing it as it as done the exact same with CD's and USB too. I dont use the wifi side of things and have switched the WLAN off on my unit.

Ths is really a poor quality product, dont even get me started on the jog platters response times.

I had my unit replaced by Pioneer but only through a contact I had and now after using the brand new unit after 3 gigs it has done the exact same thing freezing a making a complete fool out of me.Pulse, has Pioneer done anything to rectify this obvious fault? After so many complaints and customers with the exact same issue surely they can at least acknowledge it and do something about it???

Some updates from me. I had my unit sent in to a servicepartner of Pioneer. It was checked for some days, they tried all different kind of USB-Sticks and files, but couldn't reproduce a crash of the unit. So they told me to use only FAT32 formated USB-Sticks to optimize the dataflow. I've done that and it works fine right now. Around 30 hours playtime since then and no crash.

BUT

There are occuring unpredictable errors when loading the tracks, like skipping the track or saying tempo unavailable. The annoying thing is, that those errors (e.g. when I was at a party some tracks didn't load, but at home they worked fine) can occure anytime. I have switched of Wifi (would be great to use Remotebox, but who knows what happens...) and only use FAT32 Rekordbox 3.0 USB-Sticks.

At the last party I had my iPhone always running the same track like my XDJ-R1 to have a backup in case of a crash. That can't be an option. It takes all the fun of DJing, if you don't know, if the unit will fail. This high pitch sound is so terrible, I try to leave the booth only for seconds because you don't know if the crash might happen...

I was hoping for a solid solution especially form pioneer, but this is far from solid!

Here is a new Problem: I played 'Get Lucky' on one Deck and then tried to load it also on the other Deck. The unit just said 'Now Loading' and nothing else happened. I had to switch off and on to get deck working again. The track is bought from iTunes and I never had any problems with the track till now. I have used rekordbox 3.0 and the same USB-Stick (FAT32, 32 GB, Sandisk) as always.

This video is very vague, need much more information before anyone can diagnose what's wrong, for instance, is it playing a Cd or Usb? , and have any files been scanned on Rekordbox??
