Left Jog Wheel Slow Rewinding

On my last gig, for some reason, every time I load a track to the left side and try to cue it up to the place where I want to mix in, it is in slow motion. I literally have to rewind the platter times times to move it a couple of seconds. It happened all of the sudden. I've heard something about holding shift and slip, but that didn't do anything for me! Help??!!!
