[SOLVED] vinyl mode and jog wheel spinning - skips

mode: vinyl

s/w: v1.08

media: USB

if I spin back/forth the jog wheel at an -apparently too high- speed, the music skips, Looks like there is not enough buffering taking place in memory for the track being played/cued?

It doesn't only skip, it in fact stops completely. Stop for a second and go on again.... Hmm. not too good.

@Roeland > I've had a reply from the engineers:

The engineers have never heard of this issue.

They have some questions:

Does “skip” mean the sound is cut or interrupted instead of it being smoothly output?

If our understanding is correct, what conditions do you have when the sound is skipped?

Please let us know how to reproduce this issue. It would be very helpful for us to reproduce this issue.

Gavin,

The sound is stopped if you do it fast enough. If you wait shortly and continue, it will go on where it left off.

Reproducing is easy.

Take an USB stick with a track of, say 6+ minutes.  I'm using a Kingston DT-101 G2, 16GB.

Power up the cdj-8650 (f/w 1.08)

Select vinyl mode

Select track, and cue it to somewhere at 90% or so (fairly at the end)

let it play at that position. Now use the top of the jog wheel platter to stop tre track.

If you go back slow (say 1.2 to 1 rontation/second) all will be fine and sound is heard.

If you go fast (like with one finger and as fast as you can), it will at some seconds stop with sound and the display also doesn't et updated.

Now if you wait a few seconds, you can spin back again and the sound starts again, until again it stops.

It looks like if some buffer gets emptied faster than being able to get filled. If you still cannot reproduce I could create a spall movie to demonstrate you.

@Roeland > Additonal questions from the engineers:

|

We do clearly understand how to reproduce this issue now.

We have some questions to Roeland as follows:

What kind of DJ play did you want to perform in the method you tried?

Do you use this method because you want to perform something which cannot be performed with normal method of DJing?

What kind of occasions do you want to use this method?

Sorry for my English.

I use backspin when playing, if I want to make a long backspin, so I also becomes the music stops, it destroys me to the joy of playing.

error becomes both at flashdisc and at CD racks, CD racks using originals. Flashdisck is set prestne according to you.

he does not see Time of Load course of music on CDJ1000 sel tran foremost i overspeeds progress, the CDJ850 not, I do not understand.

I hope you are working on new firmware to CDJ850 become satisfied.

what Microgenius says as well as this --

if you quickly want to search for a specific point in a track. If you do it too slow -- time is lost. If you do too fast -- it will skip/stop so time list.

I am aeware of the FF/REW knobs as well as FF/REW togerter with jogwheel spin. However, FF/REW will skip parts as designed. and using FF/REW with the jog wheel, requires two hands. I do have two but sometimes it's needed on the other deck, mixer, headphones etc etc ;-)

You're certainly spinning it faster than the player is able to decode and buffer the audio. A CD or uncompressed audio file will be faster and offer better performance when doing a backspin, but spinning slightly less hard or slower will yield better results.
