Initial Setup and Connections - XDJ Aero (Struggling!)

Hi there, I am a complete newcomer to these forums and also a relative novice when it comes to DJing. I've messed around on other people's set ups and CDJ's, but no experience when it comes to setting up my own equipment (which I am now trying, and failing! To do)

as a result I have a few questions...

is playback/IEM possible without being connected to a master output? The speakers I hoped to hook up to the aero wasn't possible and so whilst waiting for new speakers to arrive, I wondered whether I can begin to utilise controller merely through headphones.

And, if this is possible, are there settings I can utilise on the controller itself so as to achieve playback? As currently I can load tracks on to controller, have them okaying in both decks but unable to hear sound when headphone plugged into the Jack.

im aware this is so so basic, but ANY feedback would be greatly appreciated!
