Harddisk full - How to move the complete libary to an external USB drive?

Dear Rekordbox Community,

I've tried several howtos and instructions but nothing seems to work. The past few years my Rekordbox libary was located on the internal harddisk of my MacBook Pro. Now my harddisk is nearly full, so i need to move my complete library to an external USB drive.

My collection is organized with subfolders for the artists and the releases. The relocation function in Rekordbox does not support this. Dragging my collection inside of Rekordbox on my external harddrive will copy the files, but there is no option to make the external harddrive as the new source for my collection. When i use the backup and restore functions in Rekordbox, my collection will always restored at the old location on my internal harddrive.

What am i missing? Have anyone a idea, clue or something for me?

All the best

Adam

@Adam > Unfortunately @Norbert's instructions are for BACKUP purposes only, not to move your collection.

My recommendation is to move your entire music folder to an EMPTY external drive, then within rekordbox, select ALL your collection and use the relocate tool to point the entries to the new location. If all songs have moved the same way (eg. you only moved ONE folder with all sub-folders and files to the new location), it will relocate everything in one simple action.

After that, you have the option of also moving the database to the external drive, but that's not necessary as it doesn't take up an inordinate amount of space.

Hey Norbert, thanks for the answer. Yeah, I've tried this option, but it won't move the audio files - just the Rekordbox database.

I've tried this too, but Rekordbox restored my files at the old location / internal harddisk. Unfortunatly not on my external hd.

Sorry

You have to completely re-install and then start the backup in the new Installation.

then all the old shortcuts wake and it is saved to the new location.
My Enlisch is awful sorry
