You do know that the level/depth knob is what controls the vinyl brake effect, right? Not the X-pad?
Hi there,
found a bug on the new DJM-900 nxs2 with FX Vinyl Brake mode activated:
Preconditions:
installed firmware on mixer is 1.09. Mixer is connected via Ethernet over Pro DJ link to MAC Book.
bug:
Vinyl brake mode could never be deactivated. The X-Pad won't react on inputs sometimes.

You do know that the level/depth knob is what controls the vinyl brake effect, right? Not the X-pad?
Take a closer look please:
The complete FX-section in this situation could never be deactivated by the ON/OFF button and no reaction on the X-Pad on beats less than 1 beat. X-pad reacts on beats above 1 beat correctly, as you can see on the display in the video. E.g. if beat selection 1/4 is pressed, you will see no reaction in the display. And yes, you could not hear it, because the Level depth knob is set to zero. But that is not the problem! Switching to another effect will not reset the engine, only switching on/off the mixer will solve the problem.
You are wrong, X-pad also controls the Vinyl-brake mode if the Level/Depth knob is beyond 0%, it is not only the knob, both do it! If knob is set to half and you press one of the beat selection in the X-pad (e.g. 1 beat) Vinyl brake mode will be activated for 1 beat long.
@Micky > The timing is set using the X-pad, but if you have the LEVEL/DEPTH set all the way left, it won't actually engage the effect; there is no output - that knob controls the effect, as previously stated.
It looks like your X-pad may be oversensitive as it seems the effect stays on (blinking on/off light) even though you have tapped it on/off. An upcoming firmware release may address that issue. Are you having any other issues with the effects / X-pad?
That is correct, if the know is turned completly to the left, there won't be an effect.
Sorry for my misleading description:
The knob position in my case was near the middle poison. In this case you can use both, the X-PAD OR the ON/OFF button to trigger the vinyl brake effect, precondition is, that the knob is NOT in zero position, that is what I meant with "you can use both in this case".
From my point off view I could not say what the cause really is, I can only describe the impact, analyzing and fixing the bug/error is Pioneers job. It seems, that this issue is already known/addressed by Pioneer, because your solution suggestion seems detailed?!
No more issues at the moment with the X-PAD, but testing still goes on...
Sorry, what I meant was there are some users who are experiencing issues with the X-pad activating itself, with a near-touch or without a touch; that is what's being investigated.
Does the on/off light only blink with that effect or does it happen with other effects as well? (Is the effect "on" without engaging the effect via on/off button or pressing the X-pad.)
Seen this error only on vinyl-brake effect, but to reinforce this, there will be needed much more testing, could also be an issue on the other effects.
I have seen this error twice, only on vinyl-brake effect and only using the X-Pad, hope this helps?!
Micky
Thanks, we'll pass that along.
Hi,
is the above mentioned bug already fixed in the firmware version 1.10?
Could not, because the problem is still present on my DJM 900 nxs2!
It seems already to get worse, unbelievable, spent so many money for those parts and it is not possible to use them for gigs, because it is possible, that the mixer will end in dead situation, where only a reset will help!!!
Not very happy!!!!!!!
Mick
Sorry about that, we've got our engineers looking into it. Have you had any other issues with the X-PAD not performing as intended, such as unintentional activation?
No,
still the same problem as mentioned above!
Made a fecebook live session yesterday, and guess what happens?
Sorry, no mercy, please give me detailed information when the bug will be fixed or hand me a german manager phone number to call, this is a mess. Paying so many bucks for something that won't work and you could not act with in public!!!
Mick
@Micky > Our DJM product lead has reviewed your issue and unfortunately he feels the problem is with the X-pad and recommends you send it for servicing at your nearest official repair shop. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Every week a wedding or event, brillant timing buying new untested, half baked equipment?!
As I am from Germany, I will sent it to that service parter. How to tell them what is happening and what the should do, exchange or repair??? Did I get a substitute during repair session? Unfortunately I did not habe another 2300€ mixer...
Made a DJ session yesterday, X-Pad reacted although I was 3 cm away from the touch strip, and guess what? exactly, could not deactivate the effect section with the On/Off button, again what a mess!!!!
From my point of view only a replacement will solve the problem durable, is there any chance?
Mick
@Micky > It's not untested nor half-baked, rather a defect in the parts for some users.
Any product sent for repair is either repaired or replaced with a refurbished unit, it's very seldom that a brand new replacement is issued.
If you send it for service, describe the issue as well as you can, you can even refer them to this forum post, and if necessary, they can contact their upstream service contacts at Pioneer DJ in Japan, and yes, they should be able to fix it for you.
Unless the shop you send it to has a loaner program, no, Pioneer DJ itself does not issue a temporary unit for use during the time yours is at service, sorry.
