Right, Ive got the auto BPM sorted for the fx, but i'm still getting a little bit of lag before the echo out kicks in.
Hello guys, I'm getting a horrid lag/pause when hitting any echo/brake out fx. I was reading the manual on how to set auto BPM on fx (instead of tapping the bpm out every few minutes) but it just won't work? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much.
Ben

Right, Ive got the auto BPM sorted for the fx, but i'm still getting a little bit of lag before the echo out kicks in.
Any kind of "lag" usually has to do with buffer size. Try finding a happy medium. Fast enough to launch FX properly, but slow enough to not experience any pops/clicks.
How's it going... I was actually going to post about this same problem I'm having.. It seems there's a major lag in the echo effect.. It doesn't seem as spot on as the EFX-500 used to be.. I was actually expecting the same if not a better echo effect from my s9.. Also, this is when using just vinyl or a cdj with usb's only, no laptop, no serato... Can someone please help with this issue? Will there be a firmware update anytime soon to correct this issue? Thank you in advance...
@James > have you tried adjusting your buffer size to see if this has any affect?
Mark, I'm not sure I'm understanding you when you say buffer size? I'm using regular vinyl records, not the serato records or mp3's, just straight vinyl.. Is there something in the mixer that contains this buffer thing? I'm sorry if I seem naïve to this whole thing... Your help is much appreciated
@James > I apologize. I thought you were using Serato DJ. I will look into this and report back.
Thanks a lot Mark! I really appreciate your help with this matter!
I'm having a hard time duplicating this on my setup. I'm going to ask Pulse to try it on his.
@James > I don't quite understand what the problem is -- are you talking about a lag in the auto BPM being detected by the mixer, a lag in the echo being sampled, or a lag between you activating the echo (turning the effect on via the paddle) and the echo being output?
How's it going pulse, I would say there's a lag between me activating the echo paddle and the echo output just not being in time (quatized) with the track that it's being mixed with.. It just don't sound on point, kinda just echoes out train wreckish if that makes sense... To compare, I would say the old school efx-500 still has the best on point echo out effect out of th units I've used thus far... I honestly woulda thought that the s9 echo would be the same if not better than the efx500.. Sound quality wise I would say yes it is, but as far as it being in sync (quantized) there's just no way it comes close to the efx500
@James > I've tested a lot of Pioneer DJ equipment over the decades, and I don't find any problems with the echo on the S9. It operates comparable to any EFX, RMX or DJM product that has been produced.
In my experience, the majority of complaints of this nature are user-error or misunderstanding of the operation of the function in question. That said, I'm not blaming you, but wonder if perhaps there's something you're doing that doesn't jive with the expected usage.
Has the BPM been calculated and does it match what you're playing?
Hmm I don't know buddy... I mean I myself have been using pioneer products for over a decade, and have never had a problem till now... I'm still a huge fan of the efx500 and to this day is still used by major radio stations here in Los Angeles.. I've had the s9 now for about a month and a half and have tried different things and still get the same results... Yes the bpm definitely matches exactly what I'm playing... I'm not sure what exactly I'm allowed to say on here as far as using other dj mixers to compare, but I will say that there is a mixer that I own which is supposed to be the competitor to the s9, I'm sure you know which one I'm talking about, well anyway, comparing the echo out on both at the same time, it's just way off and is totally noticable... My other mixer's echo staying in sync perfectly as the echo fades out.. Almost identical to the efx500... Well either way I appreciate your help with this matter.. Overall a great mixer, but the echo is just suspect in my opinion
If you can shoot a video that shows the issue it would certainly be of help in trying to determine what the problem is and whether or not it's something that should be / can be addressed.
Ok Dedinifely! Will do... Thanks buddy
There is 100% a little bit of lag immediately after flicking the paddle up on my set up. I'll be very interested in seeing your video @James.
@Ben > Could you do the same? It would be interesting to compare.
Yes mate, I'll do it asap.
Ben THANK YOU for confirming my friend! Will be posting video as soon as I get home
Since my og post, I honestly haven't had a minute with my S9. I used it for about 5 hours straight on Saturday and had some echo out issues.
Just to add.. It's a fantastic mixer, I absolutely love it! So I could really do with getting to the bottom of this.
I agree! Great mixer! BUT the echo effect is definitely off..
