XDJ-RX Hanging During Set Recording - Resulting Sound Errors In Mix Playback

Hey there,

I have an XDJ-RX and I've been having a lot of problems with it. It loves to just hang randomly at times with the "loading" circle and sit there for half of a song while I am in the mix. This is becoming extremely aggravating for a piece of equipment that was sold to me as "professional" quality.

I have had this issue across multiple thumb drives, and have taken the steps necessary to alleviate the issue, however the problem persists. I have taken my thumb drives and performed a full format, FAT32, two times sequencially to make sure they are formatted properly. I have also scanned all of my MP3 files and and fixed any files with errors on them. Even with that, I STILL get hang ups and it's really disappointing. I always write down which 2 songs were playing when the hangup occurred, and it is never the same songs involved.

At the moment I am using a 64GB Samsung Fit flashdrive, loaded in the USB2 port, to play and record simultaneously. I only have about 2-3GB of music on the drive. The errors also occurred on my 32GB Kingston DataTraveler drive when I was using that.

The hanging "load" screen is a problem that I can deal with (although I shouldn't have to) as the system usually unlocks in a few minutes and I can carry on, but what happens is when I playback my MIX RECORDING the audio gets messed up during the time that the system was hanging. For instance, when I am playing I'll have song A playing, transition smoothly into song B, and then the system hangs while I'm trying to browse for song C. Once I do load song C, I perform another smooth transition into it and so on.

The resulting recording SHOULD be my mix from song A, to B, to C, but it's not! When I review the recorded mix, I hear song A playing, and then it suddenly cuts to song B without any transition, just a hard cut at some random point in both songs. Song B will play for 30 seconds or whatever, and suddenly cut back to a cue point and continue playing for another 30 seconds, cut back to the cue point AGAIN, and then carry on as normal and I hear my transition from song B to song C as I played it.

This is beyond bizzare and it completely ruins the flow of my recorded sets. Please help me get to the bottom of this.

EDIT: I'm also using the latest firmware.

From reviews I could find, the write speeds of those drives are both really subpar. It's possible, especially if you are, in fact, reading and writing to the same drive, that the reason the errors are occurring is the drive simply can't keep up.

As @eric posted below, try using two different drives and next time consider spending more money for a higher quality / higher performance USB drive.

Have you tried using 2 drives, 1 to play music to and 1 to record on to?  From what you wrote it sounds like you have 1 drive plugged into the USB slot on the right side of the unit and are playing from and recording to that one device.

I never assumed the feature of playing and recording at the same time also means doing so from 1 drive.

If you watch the official XDJ-RX intro video, the person plays off one and records on another.

I'm not support but I think this might be ur problem.
