Blinking Green Light. USB doesn't connect.

 I just bought a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 for recording sets at shows. I am testing it on my DJM 900nexus and it is not connecting. I have the 1.601 driver utility installed. When I plug the usb cable into the surface after installing the driver the windows driver setup utility pops up and completes the djm-900 nexus driver installation but in the setting utility it still says not connected and the green light on the mixer keeps blinking forever. I have the same exact driver version installed on my alienware laptop and the usb connection works just fine. The green light goes solid immediately. It's just impractical to take an 18" laptop to a show when i don't even need it to play my set. Really hoping someone can help me figure this out.
