XDJ-R1 Jog Wheel LEDs

Hello, support team.

I've owned XDJ-R1 recently. And can you, please, provide info, how jog leds are working?

I've found some info here https://forums.pioneerdj.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360058172352-Xdj-R1-jog-wheel-illumination-

Well, in my case, when using USB stick, with prepared via Rekorbox tracks:

Leds are blinking when track are loading;

When track is ending - there are no leds blinking. Only in the display of the deck there is indicating.

When using Virtual Dj:

When track is ending - the leds are blinking (before 30 s to the end of the track)

When using Rekordbox performance mode:

When track is ending - there are no leds blinking. But when I put down channe fader - the leds are turning off.

Well, so, please, can you provide full info or explanation, how jog wheels leds have to work in right way. Or may be there are any ways to change their work, in different cases (playing from USB stick, CD, MIDI - rekordbox).

Thanks a lot.

Jog wheel LEDs on the XDJ-R1 behave differently depending on the source and software:

  • From USB with Rekordbox-prepared tracks: LEDs blink while loading, but don’t blink near track end.

  • Using Virtual DJ: LEDs blink about 30 seconds before track ends.

  • In Rekordbox Performance Mode: LEDs don’t blink near track end but turn off when the channel fader is lowered.

This behavior is normal and depends on how each software signals playback status to the hardware. Unfortunately, there aren’t user-configurable settings to change LED behavior on the jog wheels.

Using a USB memory stick and Rekordbox:

When loading tracks: When you load a track, the LED light will flash to indicate that the track is being loaded.
At the end of the track: At the end of the track, the LED light will stop flashing, and only the turntable display screen will show a prompt.

The jog wheel LED behavior on the XDJ-R1 is normal and varies because it is controlled by the specific software or media source (e.g., Virtual DJ sends a MIDI signal for the track-end warning, while USB/standalone mode relies on the e-zpassky deck display). This functionality is not user-configurable to change how the LEDs react in different modes.

sounds like your Pioneer XDJ-RX is facing a common connectivity issue where the export mode isn’t linking via USB and the ASIO driver isn’t being recognized, resulting in the error 004. To resolve this, first ensure that your firmware and rekordbox software are fully updated—sometimes reinstalling the XDJ-RX driver or switching USB ports can fix the ASIO detection problem. Also, check that the XDJ-RX is properly set to “Link Export” mode and that rekordbox is running with the correct audio device selected. Pioneer may release future updates to improve stability, so keeping an eye on their official support page is recommended. For reference, just like ensuring you have the latest Swiss Chalet menu with prices Canada PDF helps you get accurate menu details, keeping your XDJ-RX firmware and software up-to-date ensures smooth performance.

Thanks for the detailed breakdown — this actually matches what I’m seeing as well. From what I understand, jog wheel LED behavior depends heavily on the playback source and software control. With USB/Rekordbox-exported tracks, the end-of-track warning is handled on-screen only, while software like VirtualDJ adds its own LED cues. In Performance Mode, LED behavior seems tied to deck/fader state rather than track position.

It would be great if Pioneer could clarify whether this is expected behavior or if any firmware/software options exist to standardize LED warnings across USB, Rekordbox, and MIDI use.

Yes, the flickering of the waveform on the Pioneer XDJ XZ when compressed is likely due to the display's low refresh rate, similar to the CDJ 2000 Nexus models. Expanding the waveform usually resolves this issue, corporatepaintingteam providing a smoother visual representation.

On the XDJ-XZ, you can’t change the beat countdown to show time until the next memory cue point—it only shows bars. This feature is available through Rekordbox on PC, not directly on the unit. It’s similar to using a fm whatsapp, where full control and options are only accessible on a computer.

This looks like normal XDJ-R1 behavior — the jog wheel LEDs are controlled by the playback mode/software (USB, Rekordbox, VirtualDJ, FNAF), so the lighting patterns can differ a lot depending on the source. Unfortunately, there’s no real setting to standardize or customize it across all modes.
