"Now Playing" with XDJ-XZ playing from USB stick

Dear community and Pioneer (if you read this),

I'd like to enlighten my audience with details about current track that's currently on the deck, and eventually the track on other deck (which is typically just in queue for a smooth transition into). I know Rekordbox is capable of the EXPORT mode over LAN and also works well with USB, however I never succeeded to have rekordbox (and then "Now Playing" software) to get info about what I mix while playing from USB stick plugged-in the XDJ-XZ.

Why not to use Pro DJ Link? Because my tracks are stored on NAS at home, while the library is on the laptop, so when dropping a gig, I have the USB stick with me, not the NAS. Still, having a network-attached display in the club, where I would present "Now playing" would be nice.

Big events are leveraging professional setup using the ecosystem in FOH, enabling engineers to see the waveforms the DJ is playing to control visuals etc. My aim is smaller :)

Thank you!

Oldrich

Hi Oldrich,

You don`t need the export mode for it, Just  Pro Dj Link to send metdata to the PC:

"

xport your music and playlists to a USB stick as normal.

Connect your computer to your router / switch. Connect your XDJ-XZ using a LAN cable to the same router router / switch.

Install Now Playing on your computer and start it up. It will automatically start in ProDJ-Link mode."

I Hope this helps you

Great idea, Oldrich. Unfortunately, when playing from USB on XDJ-XZ, Rekordbox doesn’t transmit live track data over LAN. For “Now Playing” displays, you’d need a setup with Rekordbox in Performance mode or use MIDI/OSC mapping with third-party tools. A lightweight workaround could be syncing a local playlist app manually or exploring TouchOSC with custom scripts. E-ZPassIL

Sharing "Now Playing" information while using the XDJ-XZ from a USB stick can be tricky, as Rekordbox and "Now Playing" software typically rely on EXPORT mode over LAN or direct library access. Since your tracks are on a USB stick and not on a NAS or connected network, the software cannot automatically detect what’s being mixed, limiting real-time display for the audience. While large events use FOH integration to show waveforms and control visuals, smaller setups require alternative solutions, such as manually updating track info or exploring compatible third-party tools. This process is somewhat similar to using a calcolatore online stipendio netto, where instead of handling complex calculations manually, the online tool provides quick and accurate results, saving time and reducing hassle.

When using the Pioneer XDJ-XZ to play directly from a USB stick, retrieving real-time “Now Playing” metadata in external software is unfortunately limited because Rekordbox does not actively sync track information back to the computer when the unit is operating in standalone USB mode, which is why tools that rely on Rekordbox or Pro DJ Link often fail to display live track data in this setup; unless you connect the XDJ-XZ in Link Export mode with a laptop actively managing playback or use additional hardware/software that taps into Pro DJ Link on a local network, there is currently no official method to reliably broadcast track titles to a network-attached display while playing purely from USB, so a practical workaround is to prepare playlists with embedded metadata, switch to laptop-assisted performance for events where “Now Playing” is critical, or use third-party MIDI/HID-based solutions that attempt to parse deck activity, even though these are not always stable; similar to how a hemorrhoidectomy instruments set contains specialized tools designed for a specific surgical workflow, the DJ ecosystem also requires the right combination of hardware and software tools to achieve seamless real-time data output for audience-facing displays.

You’re looking to display “Now Playing” info while mixing from a USB on the XDJ-XZ, but Rekordbox doesn’t easily expose track data in that setup without Pro DJ Link. A lightweight workaround or official support would be great especially for smaller gigs where sharing live info matters, just like tracking price in qatar updates in real time.

If you’re trying to display “Now Playing” information from an XDJ-XZ running off a USB stick, it’s a bit tricky because Rekordbox’s EXPORT mode over LAN usually requires the laptop’s library to be actively connected, and the XDJ-XZ doesn’t natively push track metadata over USB to external software like “Now Playing” when it’s not linked via Pro DJ Link. Since your tracks live on the USB and your library is on a laptop, the simplest workaround is either to keep a mirrored library on your laptop for LAN export or use a MIDI/OSC tool to read deck information directly from the XDJ-XZ, though this requires custom mapping. This setup would let you run a network-attached display at the venue without needing the NAS. It’s a niche solution compared to full FOH integration at big events, but for smaller gigs it’s effective. As a side note, while exploring these setups, it’s worth comparing costs, like how stellas menu prices in canada differ across locations, to plan your tech investments efficiently.

Automatizzare dove possibile e ridurre i passaggi manuali. Speriamo che in futuro Pioneer apra di più anche a questo tipo di integrazione da USB.

Interesting setup—this is actually a common limitation when playing directly from USB on the XDJ-XZ, since Rekordbox in EXPORT mode doesn’t actively send “Now Playing” data unless it’s part of a full Pro DJ Link network. One workaround could be using a laptop connected via LAN just to monitor metadata, or exploring third-party MIDI/Link tools that can read deck status in real time.

In a similar way, platforms like https://stipendiocalcolatore.it/ focus on extracting and presenting detailed real-time data (like breaking down INPS, IRPEF, and net salary calculations step by step), so the concept of making hidden data visible to an audience is definitely achievable with the right integration. If Pioneer expands metadata output from USB playback in future firmware, your “Now Playing” display idea would become much easier to implement.

This would honestly be a great feature for USB-based DJs. A native “Now Playing” output from the XDJ-XZ could help streamers and club setups without needing full Rekordbox EXPORT mode all the time.

Maybe Pioneer could add a lightweight metadata broadcast feature through Pro DJ Link in future updates. Small improvements like this make setups much smoother, similar to how an official sim link helps users quickly access the right information without extra steps.
