- XDJ-XZ Setup: Set the mixer mode to Hardware to ensure EQs and effects are applied.
- Scarlett 4i4 Connection: Connect the master output of the XDJ-XZ to the Scarlett’s line inputs to capture the processed audio.
- DJ Software: Route the deck audio back to the XDJ-XZ for processing, then send the final master output to the Scarlett for recording.
- MacBook Audio Settings: Set the XDJ-XZ as the primary audio device for input/output in both your software and system preferences.

FolgenEQ's are not working when I connect my interface with XDJ-XZ
Hello,
I recently added my Scarlett 4i4 focusrite to my DJ setup as I wanted my recordings to be of higher quality. I connected my Adam t5v to the focusrite, and I connected the focusrite to my macbook pro. I also connected the XDJ-XZ to my MacBook. I can play my music via the volume faders and my loops, cues and play buttons also work. The problem is that I can't use my EQs, filters and effects. How can I solve this?
Thanks

That's a frustrating setup issue! It sounds like your XDJ-XZ is primarily acting as a MIDI controller in that configuration, sending button commands but not audio directly. You might need to configure your DJ software to route audio through the XDJ-XZ's audio interface and then into your Focusrite for recording. It's a bit of a faff but should get your effects working. Also, if you're looking for a fun, simple game while you're troubleshooting, try Eggy Car – a good distraction!
What a hassle with that setup! It seems like your XDJ-XZ is functioning mainly as a MIDI controller in this config, sending button inputs but not audio. You may need to tweak your DJ software to channel audio through the XDJ-XZ’s audio interface and then to your Focusrite for recording. It’s a bit of a chore, but it should sort out your effects. Oh, and if you need a quick break while sorting this out, give Eggy Car Unblocked a go – it’s a fun, lighthearted game!
Use the XDJ-XZ as your main audio interface
-
Connect your speakers (Adam T5Vs) directly to the XDJ-XZ’s master outputs.
-
In your DJ software (Rekordbox, Serato, etc.), select the XDJ-XZ as the audio device, not the Scarlett.
-
This way, the mixer EQs, filters, and FX work properly, because the audio is routed through the unit.
-
You can still record sets using the XDJ’s built-in recording or loop its output back into your Mac.

That setup problem is really annoying! In that setup, it appears that your XDJ-XZ is mostly functioning as a MIDI controller, transmitting button commands rather than audio directly. It may be necessary to set up your DJ software to record audio via the XDJ-XZ's audio interface before sending it to your Focusrite. It's a little faff, but it should help your effects.@Retro Bowl 26
It sounds like your setup is almost there, but it seems like you’re running into a mapping issue between your XDJ-XZ and your MacBook. Make sure you’ve properly configured the XDJ-XZ in your DJ software (like Serato or Rekordbox) to recognize and map the EQs, filters, and effects. It’s a bit like playing fnf, where you’ve got the rhythm down but need to match the inputs correctly to get all the features to sync. Once everything is properly mapped, those EQs and effects should work just like they do on the hardware itself!
It sounds like your XDJ-XZ is acting only as a MIDI controller while audio is routed through the Scarlett. Try setting the XDJ-XZ as the main audio device in your DJ software, or route the Scarlett’s outputs back into the XDJ-XZ. That should restore EQ and fnf game effects control.
Have you checked that the audio routing/assignments between your interface and the XDJ-XZ are correct? Sometimes the EQ won’t work if the deck output isn’t going through the mixer section as expected. Also make sure both your interface and XZ are on the latest firmware/drivers run 3— that can fix signal routing quirks.
Sounds like a routing issue, man. You gotta check your software settings, maybe you missed assigning those EQs to the right channel.
You should double-check your audio routing and MIDI mapping within your DJ software (e.g., Rekordbox), as adding an interface like the Scarlett 4i4 can sometimes cause EQs, filters, and effects to stop working if the deck or mixer modes haven't been assigned correctly. While you wait for a fix, you can also unwind by playing a few fun games free for entertainment.
It sounds like your XDJ-XZ is functioning only as a MIDI controller while the audio is being routed through the Scarlett. Try selecting the XDJ-XZ as the primary audio device in your DJ software, or send the Scarlett’s outputs back into the XDJ-XZ. That should bring back control over EQ and Sprunky effects.
Welcome!
Technical setup problems like EQ controls not responding usually come down to routing or configuration conflicts, especially when extra interfaces are connected. It’s similar to gaming beta apps where small settings can completely change the experience. I recently read this guide about customizing profiles in Astute Beta Server, and it explained the process in a really simple way: https://astutebetaserver.com/change-name-in-astute-beta-server/
