CDJ stuck in loop, won't exit

A few weeks ago while playing on a CDJ-2000, a colleague of mine was unable to exit an active loop during a live set. The exit button would cause the loop to start over again. I'd never seen that behavior before and assumed it was a fluke until the same thing happened to me on a CDJ-900NXS.

Again, instead of exiting the loop, the reloop feature would trigger and you'd be stuck in the loop forever. Only way to resolve the issue was to switch to the other deck and then load a new track in the deck with the stuck loop.

I was surprised to find no other users of CDJs reporting this problem so I read manuals for various products trying to find out if there was some mode we triggered to cause this behavior. All manuals state that while in the active loop, the RELOOP/EXIT button should exit the loop. Relooping should only occur when there is no active loop.

I obviously can't recreate this behavior on any decks I've had access to since.

Has anyone else encountered this before? Is there some hidden mode I am missing? Or is this just a common failure mode for the line of CDJs? If it happens again I will take note of the firmware version...

Thoughts?

Are you sure you were in a loop and not in stutter-cue with the jog in CDJ mode (as opposed to vinyl mode)?

Pretty certain. I never play in CDJ mode and I entered the loop myself my using the in/out buttons (it was 8 beats in length not whatever the stutter is which has to be 1 or less). I couldn't find anything about the behavior of the exit button changing when in CDJ mode.

Also, the deck that was stuck was not paused, it was on air. So the audience heard an 8 bar loop repeating, and then a glitch when I would press exit because it would start at the beginning of the loop again. It was very painful. :/

Okay, I was just wanting to confirm that it wasn't that you had accidentally hit the play/pause and gone into the 1-frame cueing for CDJ mode!

It's possible that there was a problem reading the data from your USB device, thus the player entered an emergency loop. I would recommend checking your USB drive for errors, and possibly formatting and re-exporting the contents to it.

The firmware should also be verified, if possible - latest version is always recommended.
