DDJ SX3- Terrible Crossfader settings (Knob removed)

I was excited by the addition of 3 mics and 2 USB ports to the DDJ SX3 so I ran out and bought it without checking all the specs.

(Yes, I also experienced the "known issue" and had to send it back immediately for a replacement as well)

Pioneer replaced the crossfader curve adjustment knob with 3 presets.
WTF?!?!

Can someone explain the reasoning to me?

If you are a scratcher I'm sure the 3 settings are fine but I use the crossfader for smooth mixing and the controller is pretty much unusable and the SX series is for sure NOT a scratch battle unit.

Why it's unusable to me:
2 of the settings bring the 2nd track in WAY TO HOT the second you move the crossfader over from one side.... and the 3rd setting DROPS the volume by several DB when the crossfader is in the middle.
So no matter which setting....all tracks appear to come in too hot/loud or dip in volume.

I'm totally perplexed.
Thoughts?

The three modes, left to right:

- Sharp (cuts in immediately)
- Logarithmic (gentle curve with a dip in the middle)
- Linear (constant volume slope)

For scratching, the Sharp setting is preferred. No, it's not designed or intended as a battle scratch crossfader -- it doesn't hold a candle to the Magvel or Magvel Pro crossfaders in some of our other products.

The Log curve is the best bet for mixing where you leave your channel faders at 10 -- the reason it has a slight dip in the middle is to ensure that tracks which have equal gain will not sum to cause an inadvertent rise in master level.

The reason the knob was replaced with a 3-position curve is our surveys found that most DJs were using one of those 3 anyhow.

What is your "ideal curve" and why don't you find what's provided is adequate in any position?

Thanks for your reply...much appreciated.

To answer your question- I usually have the curve knob between 10-12 O'clock.

I understand the reasoning on the LOG curve but the dip in DB/Volume is REALLY significant when you are mixing live.   I measured and it's between 4-5 DB drop in the center as oppose to far right or left.

FYI- This is a brand new replacement unit for the other know issue with the SX3.
Is the dip really calibrated for 4-5DB or is it possible that I just got another bad unit?

I know I sound dramatic but the DB drop  in LOG mode is so noticeable that I had people at 2 separate gigs come up and ask why the volume kept dropping so had to keep it in the middle and use the up/down faders.

As I mentioned, the other 2 fader settings bring the new track in so suddenly that they also make smooth crossfader mixing impossible.

I've been strictly PIONEER since I had a pair of CDJ 100s and a DJM 600 mixer but I'm afraid I'm going to have to sell the SX3 and switch to Denon 7000.

I just wanted to share the feedback because I truly love Pioneer products but I just cant mix on the SX3 now.

Thanks
