Network port solution

I just got a pair of CDJ 2000 Nexus and a DJM900.  Classic setup.  I was surprised at the amount of cables and an Ethernet switch needed to connect all, and even more surprised to find that digital audio needed its own connection.  Reading in this forum, someone said there “wasn’t enough room” and even suggested it would take 6 ports to connect 4 decks.  Really?  Hasn’t Pioneer ever heard of Daisy Chaining.  The most you would need on any device is 2 ports.  Plus, that should also replace the “digital” inputs. Ethernet can stream 4K movies and sound.  Why wouldn’t it be able to handle 4 audio signals and sync data.

I am guessing it’s the same lack of vision that refuses to put Ableton Link technology in at least Rekordbox, if not on the devices themselves.  Well at least I love the devices, even if I have to use them with Serato.

There is a very good and technical reason daisy-chaining is not used, but I'm afraid I can't disclose it. Sorry!

As for relaying other content over the ethernet connection, that's not standardized and would be useless in many environments.

This is very similar to an idea I had been thinking about.

Daisy is one option, but I know from working on some other products that this actually adds a reasonable price hike.

I'd far rather see a POE KUVO Network Switch with Ethercon connectors that powered the CDJ/XDJ players and transferred the digital audio back to the mixer.

That would seriously tidy up the DJ Booth.  One cable to each player.

I understand the 900NXS2 is tight inside but it would be a dream if this was in the mixer.

Data is data.  I can't imagine the "big secret" as to why a single connection between devices wouldn't be sufficient for any multiple types of data - including video, even if it was a proprietary cable. (more money in your pocket)  There seems to be a strange disconnect at Pioneer between what the company secretly is cooking up, and what the customers are asking for. (pst...Ableton Link) i guess we will have to just wait and see.

Still, have come to appreciate Pioneer for the 90% they get VERY right.  My new gear is top-notch, even if it looks like black spaghetti behind.

No disconnect at all, there are plenty of fun things in the pipeline we can't discuss.
