Verify DJM-900 authenticity with Serial Number?

Hi, I want to buy a DJM-900 from an online seller and want to verify that it is an authentic unit. I have the serial number. Is this possible to verify? The Pioneer DJ website allows me to enter any set of numbers as a valid serial number as long as its in the proper format -- I expected it to tell me I had an invalid serial number when I entered ABCD123456EF but it didn't.

Right, neither have I. Although I know that fakes exist online at places like alibaba. I’m just suspicious of a too good (price) to be true situation

They're likely not fakes, but refurbs or grey-market products.
