XDJ-XZ DAC

Pulse,

Having owned many Pioneer DJ products (NXS2 setup, DDJ-SX2, DDJ-RZ, DDJ-1000) there is a clear difference with audio quality between devices, understandably.

Where does the XDJ-XZ sit with respect to sound quality and DAC. The DAC on my NXS2 is phenomenal, followed by the RZ (uses the Wolfson DAC). Sadly, the DDJ-1000 is a significant step down as both the RIAA preamps are "thin" and slightly distorted, and the main DAC introduces a bit of noise.

Hard to test for this in a noisy store with crappy $100 speakers, but as you know, it makes a huge impact when plying in a quiet home studio and an even bigger impact on a large $$$$ nightclub sound system..

Thanks!

I haven't personally had a chance to test this unit to do a comparison, and sadly, looking at the spec sheets don't really tell the whole story either.

Given the price point and positioning, I'm hoping that it comes in on par with the DJM-750/850 level mixer for audio quality, but as you said yourself - even testing with some mid-level speakers won't always show the weaknesses!

The phono inputs on the DDJs have been tailored to suit DVS signals, which is not as appealing for those wanting to play regular vinyl records, but again, not having used the XZ myself, I can't say what kind of component is in use or how it compares. Once I get one, I'll be sure to provide my opinion and comparison.

Thanks Pulse for the quick reply. Would love to hear your opinion when you get to test one.  We all seem to be waiting in Canada / US for this to reach shore!

the dac isn't the Problem it's About the Quality of the analog stage. the ddj-1000 for example uses a akm4458vn which is a really good dac chipset, the Problem is the analog stage behind it and thats what may introduce noise. a solution would be implementing a digital out (spdif/aes) i've done that for testing on the ddj-400 there is a difference like day n night :-)

The XZ sits up there with the RZ (the best controller sound output).  The RZ is on par with a DJM900 NX2 I would say the XZ is very slightly below this, but not much and you will need a very good ear/good speakers to hear a difference.
