XDJ XZ Mixer Scale

Greetings,

Anyone know what 0 dBFS in the mixer in the XDJ XZ is calibrated to?

Before I get a chance to create a pink noise file at -20dbFS, just wanted to ask here as I do not see any info about this in either XDJ XZ or DJM900 NXS2 Manuals.

Thank you!

I'm not sure of the calibration value of the XDJ-XZ, but I'll say the same thing I tell anyone asking about this... use your ears and compare the meter readings on the devices that count. If you're recording, look at how the recording levels are compared to what the meters show on the DJM or XDJ itself. If the output recording was a decent -6dB peak (as measured in software after recording) when the channel meters were peaking at +3, then that's where you aim for next time.

Hello Pulse,

I agree with everything you said.

The audio engineer in me combined for my passion for pioneer DJ products has pushed me to do some testing none the less so here are my findings:

Pro Tools Signal Generator used to create the below files:

-20dbFS Sine 1k

  1. Mono 44.1kHz 16bit
  2. Stereo 44.1kHz 16bit
  3. Mono  48kHz 16bit
  4. Stereo 48kHz 16bit

0dBFS Sine 1k

  1. Mono 44.1kHz 16bit
  2. Stereo 44.1kHz 16bit
  3. Mono  48kHz 16bit
  4. Stereo 48kHz 16bit

***Confirming there was no audible or visual difference with sample rate and channel width.

Results for channel meters with the trim pot at 12pm on the XDJ-XZ

-20dBFS sine wav =  -15 dBVU

0dBFS sine wav = +6 dBVU

Taking it a step further, with the master pot at 2pm, the signal on the master meters was identical to the channel meters.

Food for thought.

Thank you,

Avo Mardikian
