Sorry, there is no "high pass echo" as default on the hardware itself, you would have to cut the EQ for that.
On my old Efx1000 box, you had the ability to cut the bass out of the Echo efx. This makes a much more useful and pleasant echo, especially when echoing out of a song.
Is there a way to pre-set the Echo efx to cut out the bass on the DJM S9? Or do I have to manually cut the bass first using the ISO bass knob?

Actually THERE IS A WAY!
You can go into Settings - Audio - Custom and under the FX section you can slide the HPF over to right to cut the bass. I like 5 which mirrors what my EFX 1000 box would sound like.
Another option is to use the built in Serato Efx with the Clean Echo Out and set the parameter within Serato so it cuts the bass. Serato Efx doesn't sound as good as Pioneer's built in EFX though.
