As a former owner of the DDJ-RXZ I had the same issue and found that what makes it work right is you must have the DDJ-RZX already plugged into your computer laptop AND the DDJ-RZX powered on BEFORE you turn on your computer.
I Recently Purchased the DDJ-RZX Controller and I started having problems right away after getting it . I loaded both Recordbox and Virtual DJ and I am not getting any sound coming out on both software. I sent my unit in for repair thinking something internal maybe wrong with it . SFM marketing where the unit was sent for repair they changed the whole main board , after countless hrs of trouble shooting they were getting the same thing happening still. I was doing some research to see if anyone else had the same issue. I did find a post in a forums page that other people had the same issue and they said I had to change the sample rate from 44100 to 96000 soon as I did that the sound came on . I tried changing it back to 44100 then reboot the controller and again no sound , it needs to be on same rate of 96000 to work . SFM Marketing game me a contact to Pioneer Tech support in Canada , after talking with him we did some troubleshooting and he took out the same controller and set up the same way i did , and he duplicated the the same problem with no sound, he had to do the same thing and change it to 96000 to make it work. We came to the conclusion there must of been a update that has caused this issue along the way . I'm hoping this can be fixed and resolved with either a firmware or update .
