Recommended 128 GB USBs for CDJ-850?

Hi all,

I want to upgrade my USB drives for use with my CDJ-850s.

Until now I've been using a pair of 32 GB SanDisc Cruzer Blades (USB 2.0). I've had no problems with them in the CDJs, but I've maxed out the capacity and want something bigger.

Seeing as I'm upgrading, I'd like to get sticks with decent read/write speeds. I understand that the read speed when using 850s will be capped at the USB 2.0 maximum (480Mbps) – but write speed when exporting from Rekordbox is also a consideration for me.

From reading the forums, here are a few brands that people have had problems with in the 850s:

  • SanDisc Extreme Pro 3.0, 3.1 & 3.2
  • Samsung Fit Plus 3.1
  • Samsung Bar Plus 3.1

Here are some models that people have reported as working in the 850s:

  • Kingston HyperX USB 3.0 (128 GB) -- [slow load speeds reported in 850]
  • SanDisk Ultra Flairs 3.0

I appreciate that Pioneer are unable to compile a comprehensive list of which USBs work with which CDJ models, but I like to know from fellow community members:

(1) Which models have worked for you on CDJ-850s?

(2) Which models have not worked for you on CDJ-850s?

(3) How did you format the devices that worked / did not?

Final question: given the max read speeds on the 850s, is it worth me just finding a USB 2.0 drive and sacrificing export speed for functionality with my CDJ model?

Cheers

Hi,

I'm curious if you did find a good working 128 USB for the CDJ- 850s? Just found out the SanDisc Extreme Pro 3.2 aren't working on them..

Would love to hear from you!

Cheers

After asking around a bit on a facebook group, the answer I got was that anything over 64 GB is unlikely to keep up, speed-wise, on the 850s :/

I'm yet to confirm if that's true, but I decided to play it safe and go with a 64 GB stick.

I was recommended the SanDisk 64GB Ultra USB 3.0. (note that's "Ultra", not "Ultra Flair", which is a different model).

They've been working well for me. Zero issues so far, and decent load speeds in my CDJs. The fact that they're USB 3.0 doesn't seem to be a problem.

Hope that helps.
