Recording a mix in rekordbox 5 with a DJM (Mac)

This guide will walk you through using a DJM to record your mix in both EXPORT and PERFORMANCE modes in rekordbox. While created with a DJM-900NXS2, and all screenshots will show this device, the instructions will apply to other models as well, but may not represent the exact channel selections, so use the appropriate channels for your model.

Export Mode

1. With your DJM connected via USB, open the Setting Utility application for the mixer. Click on the Output tab and configure the last pair of available outputs for MIX (REC OUT):Here you can also set the USB Output Level to your desired signal level, I recommend using -10dB to allow for some overhead.

2. Next, open rekordbox, open the Preferences to the Audio tab, ensure that the Audio device is your DJM, and that the Input Chanels - Input Record has the MIX(REC OUT) selected as the source:3. While you have the rekordbox preferences open, click Advanced, then the Recordings tab. Here you can set a variety of options, including path for the recorded file to be saved:You can now close the rekordbox preferences.

4. If you haven't previously done so, you may need to allow rekordbox permission to use the audio hardware for recording, so open your Mac's System Preferences and click the Security & Privacy applet, then the Privacy tab. On the left, select Microphone and you should see rekordbox within the window at the right (you may need to scroll). Tick the box to enable it; if you can't tick the box, please click the lock icon at the lower left and enter your Mac account password to unlock the panel:Close the System Preferences window and go back to rekordbox.

5. If the recording panel is not visible, tick the REC box at the top of the rekordbox window:

6. With audio playing through your mixer, you should now see levels in the recording meters. Press the red circle button to begin recording (max 3 hrs):

Note that the audio levels are not affected by the Master controls of the mixer; your channel trim level and the channel fader will dictate the audio level sent to the recording output.

7. When your mix is complete, press the white circle to finish the recording. You will be prompted with a box for additional information:

The data entered here will be stored in the metadata of the recording, as well as the filename. This pop-up box can be disabled in the rekordbox recording preferences (see step 3).

8. When you click okay, the status bar will notify you that the file was saved:

If you were using players linked to rekordbox via the ProDJ Link, the metadata and track information from songs played would have been stored to a separate .cue file (named the same as your recording) in the same folder you chose for your file to be saved. This can be used when uploading to mix sharing sites, or if you want to split the recording into smaller files.

Performance Mode
