CDJ 400 & Recordbox DJ - HID & Midi

Hello,

I am a Traktor user but have been thinking of switching to Rekordbox DJ. One of the things I like about traktor is the fact that it allows me to midi map hot cues and some other functionality to my CDJ 400.

I was able to test the decks with Rekordbox DJ and the set up is a breeze, however the software won't recognise them in the MIDI window. The effects buttons on the CDJs, which I would normally map to my hot cues are automatically mapped to fx on/off toggle switches.

Is there any way I can modify this at all? Or is it unachievable purely because of the age of the decks?

Thank you in advance,

Angel

This is because the CDJ-400 is actually operating in a higher-quality HID communication mode.

I'll pass along your comments to the product team to see if they might change this to allow some remapping.

I won't likely be providing an update to this topic unless I have anything affirmative, so you'll just have to watch rekordbox update logs to see if there are changes.

Sorry - the engineers have confirmed this is unable because it works as an HID device and can not be changed as it's not sending MIDI. This can't be changed.

sorry pulse, thats simply not true, the cdj400 is sending midi.

just check the manual page 21 ;-)

Traktor, vdj, mixvibes, etc can map the buttons without problems since years now :-)

btw: the cdjs are sending hid & midi at the same time, you can easy check this with a midi monitor while spinning in hid mode :-)

I can map the Cdj 400. But the original control is still active. Is there a way of removing the hid mapping of ex. the reverse button? I would like it to function as slip on and off.

@Mathisfcyn - Are you mapping them in Rekordbox DJ? If so, how are you able to enable to software to recognise them as midi devices?

Cheers

The cdj is under the midi-device select. It is named usb device.

To clarify: yes, the CDJ does still send MIDI, but with rekordbox it is only used in HID and no remapping is available.

Pulse. That is not true. On my Macbook, i am able to map the CDJ-400. It is named "USB Device" and is listed under my X1 and F1. I am however not able to map my cdj-350´s.

However, when i map a control on the 400, the original control (eks. REVERSE) stays mapped. So it is not that useful.

Sorry to revisit this old topic. I was wondering if the CDJ 850 can be mapped in rekordbox. Has anyone tried to do this at all?

Thanks

@Pulse - Thank you very much for the speedy reply. The diagrams are much appreciated and proved very helpful. Are we able to request changes to this configuration at all? (bit optimistic, I know, but thought I'd ask).

Thanks

So the CDJ 400 mapping is still impossible on rekordbox? It seems a joke
