Fix issue with dodgy CDJ Pitch Control

Hi there,

Occasionally I work at venues that might have a dodgy pitch condrol on the CDJ. The pitch might jump from, say, 3.18 to 3.20 by itself. I suppose this is just general wear & tear.

The problem with this is that if this happens when that CDJ is set as Master & Sync is on, it changes the tempo of the set dramatically. This applies whether I'm using USB or Rekordbox via 2xUSB cables.

Is there a way for tempo change to "meet half way" perhaps? I know that Ableton has a setting to do this called "Value Scaling" - you can read more about it here:
https://www.ableton.com/en/manual/midi-and-key-remote-control/

Thanks in advance for your help!

Sorry, the recommended fix would be to have the pitch fader serviced or to try and nudge it up or down just a hair so it doesn't jump.

I think I was mistaken, but when I first read this I thought the response was a little bit arrogant haha! I think I just read it wrong though 😁

So having the pitch fader serviced isn't really a viable option, considering the number of bars/CDJs many full time DJs go to. Even more so, considering events where the CDJs are hired, you only become aware of the problem, where the pitch slips, half way through your set. It's not something that you can really pre empt. My current method is definitely to nudge it back up or down to the BPM that it was at, but by then the damage is already done.

Even at an event with a dedicated event technician, how how are they able to pre-empt such a minute change of the pitch control?

This brings up another issue: Rekordbox seems to continuously change back the range to +/-50% or +/-16%, rather than staying on the +/-10% or +/-6% that I have chosen. I only change it to 16% when I am doing a tempo change. This problem of automatically changing it to +/-50% creates a disaster if the pitch fader does slip.

It's probably not an issue for DJs that retain a similar BPM throughout their set, however for those that jump from, for example, House to Rnb and then back, this becomes a big issue.

Hopefully it's not too tricky a fix with Rekordbox, by either
-implementing some kind of "scaled" adjustment feature, or far more simply:
-decreasing the sensitivity of the pitch fader if it's going to make a big difference in the tempo, or
-asking for "confirmation" before a sudden large drop in tempo.

Thanks, I do appreciate your help and hope to hear from you soon.
