Importing tunes automatically when added to a folder

Can someone describe to me how to import automatically import tunes added to a folder? I used to use Traktor. The way Traktor worked is that any items moved into a root folder were automatically imported next time Traktor was started. I'd like the same to happen with Rekordbox. The problem at the moment is that when I buy new tracks and move them to a folder they are not automatically imported. So then I need to find the tracks and, because I might have added them to different genre folders, find them one by one and drag them into my collection. This is slow and difficult. Is there a better way?

Already something that has been brought up as a feature request, but no guarantees on implementation or timeline.

One easy way to get all your new tracks into your collection, regardless of where you put them, is to drag the parent folder into rekordbox again - anything already in the collection is ignored.

This is not possible - I asked this question years ago.

I also have folders for different genres but I also have the column Date Added.
This way, when I select a folder, the most recent tracks will show at the top of the list.
Then just simply select them and import.

Bit time consuming I must admit.
I've used Traktor before and prefer Trackor's way.

Hopefully Pioneer will add this feature but I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks Shaun for the good advice. That's what I'll do.

Definitely a shame that Rekordbox doesn't import automatically. Pioneer should introduce this feature, as it's an inconvenience to move files to a folder then have to find the tunes in their separate folders and manually import them. Especially when a root folder is already known to Rekordbox. Ah well...

Thanks for your help Shaun.

Hey Pioneer,

I have been hunting around and saw this thread, is there a way to monitor the feature requests and vote?

I use Google Drive to manage my collection and regularly download music whilst at work, then when I switch my laptop on at home it's right there when I'm ready, fire up Rekordbox and have to manually import, if this was automated it would make life so much easier.

Surely there are enough people in need of this to push it forward, it's a basic function that other software providers already have!

One of the reasons there's no automatic import function is the fact that many DJs are running older computers and having the analysis enabled for newly imported tracks could negatively affect their performance in rekordbox dj should the software start importing and analysing music while they're trying to mix.

I completely understand, how about giving users the ability to set it as a preference so that users can turn the function on/off and have it run on Rekordbox startup and disabled while mixing?

Can I ask what the difference would then be to clicking a couple of things to import your new music?

The difference is that It becomes automated, echoing the original statement on the thread.

The key thing about the request is simplifying the process for the user. I download new music every few days, so each time I fire Rekordbox up I have to manually import my new music, if I do that every week that's 52 times a year I have to import a folder, it becomes a laborious and repetitive process.

The reason I said that was for you to consider the opposite; any DJ who doesn't want that.

That's why I suggested allowing it to be set as a preference, I absolutely agree some dj's won't want that, so if they can turn it on/off that covers all angles.

You really shouldn't have anything to do with Pioneer publicly, Pulse. You've closed threads down when people have asked for this feature in the past.

Your attitude is terrible and if you represent the company then it just shows how little they listen to their paying customers.

I agree Tim, I wasn't really very impressed with the response. Considering I had just spent nearly £4000 on pioneer equipment, I expected something like this to be at least considered rather than being told the obvious.

I've raised a few updates, comments and feature requests and the comments back have in most cases been blunt and almost rude. At the point I saw the above, which was ignoring the fact I mentioned the scenario would cater for people who didn't want the functionality, I just gave up because it's obvious they weren't reading my comments properly and didn't really care about the user experience.

It would be great to add this feature, I think that PhillB explained that there is no downside to users with older computers (like myself).

Personally I have an old junk laptop for use as my "DJ laptop" that I got for $150 a few years ago.

The preferred behavior would be that all my tracks are stored on my NAS so that I can browse and download songs from any computer, save them to my NAS, and then the next time I open up Rekordbox DJ it imports the tracks that I added.  I am not even certain what the alternative workflow is?  Just importing my root folder again everytime I want to add a track?
