[Solved] Rekordbox won't work with DDJ-SB2...at all!

I bought a DDJ-SB2 some months ago and then tried to figure out whether I go with Serato or Rekordbox. I’ve been lucky in that I started getting gigs immediately but I quickly discovered that all the venue equipment uses Rekordbox. I like to key mix so doing the Serato/Rekordbox workaround before each gig quickly proved to be a pain, so after spending months creating playlists in Serato, I have bitten the bullet and purchased Rekordbox.

My DDJ-SB2 unit worked first time with Serato, while Rekordbox on the other hand is proving to be a nightmare. The controller just won’t have any effect on the software. Like, nothing. I got in touch with Pioneer and they gave me a set of instructions which I’m sure I tried a few times after getting the same or similar instructions from other forum posts. For reference here are the instructions they provided me:

Hi Al,

Please use the following Instruction to uninstall and install the DDJSB2 driver.  Read carefully please before proceeding.

[How to reinstall the driver software]  This below is the road map> Steps 1 to 7.
Follow the instructions below to reinstall the driver software.
1. Disconnect the DDJ-SB2 from your computer.
2. Close rekordbox.
3. Open [Control Panel] → [Programs and Features] and uninstall the DDJ-SB2 driver.
4. Reboot Windows.
5. Install the DDJ-SB2 driver.  See below "Windows 10, Windows 7" or other option.
6. Connect the DDJ-SB2 to your computer.
7. Relaunch rekordbox.
-------------------------------------------------
[Windows10]
Download the latest driver software for Windows10 from Pioneer DJ support site.
*Pioneer DJ support site (https://www.pioneerdj.com/en/support/software/ddj-sb2/)
Reinstall the driver software following “How to reinstall the driver software” below.

[Windows7]
The following update program needs to be applied:
・Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3033929)
Update OS using Windows Update.
After applying the Security Update for Windows 7 x64-based Systems, reinstall the driver
software by following “How to reinstall the driver software” below.

or

In rekordbox software:

Click on [File] → [Preferences] → [Audio] then click on the → [Driver tab].  Find the ASIO driver for DDJSB2 identified as "Pioneer_DJ_DDJ_SB2_Driver_1.100" Application.  Run and follow the prompts.
----------------------------------------------------

Checking the driver status:

Please follow the steps below to check the installation status of the driver software.
Open [Control Panel] → [Device Manager] → [Sound, video and game controllers].
  Check items related to DDJ-RB2.

………………………..

………………………..

The error message I originally received was "Error while opening DDJ-SB2 ASIO" message. This error does not appear anymore.

I’m running Windows 10 and I have just update to Rekordbox 4.3.0

In Device Manager under Sound, video and game controllers, it shows DDJ-SB2 and DDJ-SB2 MIDI when the unit is connected, but these don’t display when the unit is not connected (not sure if they are meant to show when not connected?)

If anyone can assist in any way it would be massively appreciated!

@Al > I, and hundreds of other users, have been running rekordbox on Windows 10 for quite some time now, and it certainly is compatible. There are certainly other reasons why you may experience issues -- I'll ask you to file a support inquiry ticket here and our rekordbox team will assist you in troubleshooting by collecting some additional information about your setup. Thanks!

Have you activated the rekordbox dj license?

You can activate it by following the instructions below.

When you launch rekordbox for the first time after installing it, the following window automatically appears.
Click [Activate a license key] and enter your rekordboxdj license key to activate it .

If it is not the first time you launch rekordbox dj after installation, open [Preferences] > [License] > [rekordbox dj], click [Activate] and enter the license key to activate it.

This is what my Preferences-Audio looks like:

Might the issue have anything to do with the fact that in my Device Driver and in the Output Channels, the device is referred to as a DDJ-SB2, whilst the ASIO section references it as DDJ_SB2? I heard of a similar issue in another forum.

We tried a 30 day free version on another laptop running Windows 7 and it worked first time. We also ran a full W10 system error check, of which there were none. Also checked the drivers and there were no issues there.

...................

Pioneer have now fixed the issue....and it was a simple one. I had Rekordbox set to Export mode in the top left. When the controller is connected that setting needs to be set to Performance.

Happy customer!
