So the XDJ-RX plays flac files. Only problem is, you have to use a laptop running Rekordbox DJ & a USB cord and the XDJ-RX has to be in MIDI mode. Rekordbox DJ has to be in performance mode without the ethernet cord hooked up to it.
Yes I know this defeats the whole purpose of using the controller without a laptop, but at least it can be done.
Also, if your using it this way, you can hook up your DDJ-SP1 through USB and use that also and get the full capabilities with the 8 hot cues, loops and FX knobs etc etc... Good thing about hooking up the SP1 is you get all your samples with a separate volume control.
Not only that, you can also do 4 decks with the XDJ-RX's 2 channels when it's hooked up this way.
Allow me to clarify your statement ...

The XDJ-RX isn't playing the FLAC files itself; rekordbox is doing the work of playing the files, the XDJ-RX is controlling the software. Please don't mislead others with a statement which isn't exactly true.
